Neil Etheridge joins an elite group

He rightly took plenty of plaudits for preserving Cardiff's clean sheet in the dying moments of the game against Newcastle by denying Kenedy from the spot.

And it means Neil Etheridge has a 100% record when it comes to saving penalties in the Premier League having kept out Callum Wilson's spot-kick in the opening day defeat to Bournemouth.

Seven penalties have been awarded in total in the Premier League so far this season, with only two being saved. Both of which were of course by Cardiff's No.1.

But his penalty heroics have now seen him included in a select group.

Only eight goalkeepers - Stephan Andersen, Ben Alnwick, Brad Jones, Claudio Bravo, Sergio Romero, Ederson, Martin Dubravka and Etheridge - have a 100% record when it comes to saving penalties in the history of the Premier League.

And of those eight, only Jones, Ederson and Etheridge have saved more than one to achieve that record.

Take a bow, Mr Etheridge.

We have a long way to go, hope no more penalties against us.
