Gareth Bale's fellow players have bizarrely left him off a 55-man shortlist for a World XI -

Monday 10th September 2018

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has been left off the 55-man shortlist for FIFA's FIFPro World XI ā€” but 11 of his Real Madrid team-mates have made the cut.

The award sees players from around the world pick one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three attackers that they believed had excelled this season.

And having assessed the opinions of 25,000 players from 65 countries, Bale has bizarrely failed to make the grade ā€” although it's not the first time he's been snubbed for an award.

The former Spurs star also controversially saw his phenomenal bicycle kick winner for Real Madrid in the Champions League final overlooked for UEFA's Goal of the Season earlier in the summe r, although it has since been nominated for FIFA's Puskas award.

The disappointment over this latest snub may well be compounded by the fact that the entire starting XI for Real Madrid in that game have made the list, including the man Bale replaced, Isco, ahead of netting what proved to be two decisive goals in Kiev.

New Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who signed from Chelsea in the transfer window, is also included, while seven of France's World Cup winning side have earned a place.

There's also room for English trio Kyle Walker, Kieran Tripper and Harry Kane, but there are no representatives from Scotland or Northern Ireland.

Bale has certainly not let his lack of personal accolades this summer get in the way of his form this season, having made a a blistering start to the new La Liga campaign with Real, notching up three goals and two assists in four games for Los Blancos.

He was also handed the captain's armband for Wales for the first time during the 2-0 Nations League defeat to Denmark on Sunday.
