Aron Gunnarsson has suffered yet another injury setback ahead of Cardiff City's Premier League clash with Man City.

The Iceland international is yet to feature for his club this season due to a knee problem, despite Neil Warnock revealing ahead of the 4-1 loss to Chelsea that the midfielder could have featured at Stamford Bridge.

Warnock also admitted he was eager not to rush the 29-year-old back to action to ensure he doesn't suffer any further issues.

But speaking ahead of the Bluebirds' clash with Pep Guardiola's side at Cardiff City Stadium, Warnock revealed that Gunnarsson picked up another knock in training ahead of the visit of the reigning champions.

Cardiff City's Aron Gunnarsson

When asked if the midfielder was edging closer to a return to action, Warnock responded: "No. Aron picked another knock up in midweek.

"A couple of the lads clashed so we’ve got a couple of lads with knocks and we’ll have to wait and see about them.

"I don’t know the extent of them.

"We want his (Gunnarsson's) type of leadership on the pitch, but in all fairness the midfield area is doing really well considering we don’t have too much competition in there.

"There’s two or three lads we’ll have to make decisions on. They have to be 100 per cent to be considered tomorrow.

"If one or two do play we’ll probably have to think about changing things after an hour anyway but circumstances will decide that."

To injury prone I can't remember him being fit in the last 4 years in fact before that he always picked up knocks constantly
Should have spent the money on something else

Agree we should have tried to sell him, on the sick for to long we have made a few mistakes prior to starting in the prem gunarrson tomlin still here along with 3 mill for a sub keeper when we could have got a lone keeper and put the money toward a striker.

Regardless if we stay up or go back to the championship please don't offer him a new contract. I don't see what Nathan Blake and Paul Abbadonatto see in him to say he should be put in the team alongside Arter and Camarasa, I think Ralls is twice the player he is and can actually pass the f*cking ball.

Warnock must have thought he was a cheaper option than trying to get someone new.

Plus he had played a half decent role in the World Cup.

It is unfair to suggest he has played through a p[ain barrier fro Iceland thereby jeopardising his duties to City?

That's exactly what happened and a lot of people could see it.
We should've let him go and brought in a youngster imo.

He's been a great player but he was noticeably slowing down in the last few games he played and it does seem likely that the years are catching up with him in several ways. This eventually happens to everyone of course and, whilst I hope I'm wrong in this case , please let's not be critical of him for getting a bit older. He's been a great player for Cardiff City and he's earned complete respect for his efforts .
