Aron Gunnarsson has returned to training this week.

Long-term absentee Nathaniel Mendez-Laing remains sidelined with a ligament injury.

"We don’t have anything new as such. Gunnarsson will hopefully be involved against Fulham, he’s not far away."

Spurs injuries?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“They’ve had six injuries but with the squad they put out, would any of my team get into their squad? I’m not sure. They’ve got people like Harry Winks to come in, who is under 23 so not even in their 25. So we’ve got to build that academy and the future.”

About Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, commonly referred to as Tottenham or Spurs, is a professional football club in Tottenham, London, England, that competes in the Premier League. The club's home ground for the 2018–19 season is Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the first few home games of the season at Wembley Stadium. Their former home of White Hart Lane had been demolished to make way for the new stadium on the same site. Their training ground is on Hotspur Way in Bulls Cross in the London Borough of Enfield.

Founded in 1882, Tottenham won the FA Cup for the first time in 1901, the only non-League club to do so since the formation of the Football League in 1888. Tottenham were the first club in the 20th century to achieve the League and FA Cup Double, winning both competitions in the 1960–61 season. After successfully defending the FA Cup in 1962, in 1963 they became the first British club to win a UEFA club competition – the European Cup Winners' Cup. They were also the inaugural winners of the UEFA Cup in 1972, becoming the first British club to win two different major European trophies. They have collected at least one major trophy in each of the six decades from the 1950s to 2000s – an achievement only matched by Manchester United. In total, Spurs have won two league titles, eight FA Cups, four League Cups, seven FA Community Shields, one European Cup Winners' Cup and two UEFA Cups.

The club's Latin motto is Audere est Facere ("To Dare Is to Do"), and its emblem is a cockerel standing upon a football. The club has a long-standing rivalry with nearby club Arsenal, with head-to-head fixtures known as the North London derby.

Just attack them and forget about trying to stay tight and somehow steal a point.

Spurs are not the best defensively

Play a front 3 of Murphy, Ward and Reid and just go for broke like against Arsenal and we may have a chance. If he reverts to type like today against Burnley we will lose by 3/4 goals and another dissapointing display

VINCE ALM:

Lots of supporters are asking why only 3,000 tickets for Wembley?

The premier league rules state that a club must provide a minimum of 3000 tickets to the visiting team, or 10% if their capacity is below 30,000.

Although Spurs will not sell out for our fixture and many others with many upper tier areas shut. They will not give the visiting side extra tickets and just stick to the minimum not for the away support to have more of an advantage, or in other stadiums they can generally sell out to the home fans. bit like us on Sunday we were able to sell around a thousand extra tickets in the Burnley end.

Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen among huge Tottenham Hotspur injury list for Cardiff City clash

Although goalkeeper and World Cup winner Hugo Lloris should return against the Bluebirds

2 OCT 2018

Although goalkeeper and World Cup winner Hugo Lloris should return against the Bluebirds

Tottenham Hotspur will be without five key players for this weekend's game against Cardiff City, as well as the midweek clash with Barcelona.

Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele and Serge Aurier have all been ruled out through injury, leaving Mauricio Pochettino with a threadbare squad for the two Wembley games.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is again available for selection after a thigh injury, but the news will come as a boost for Neil Warnock's Cardiff who are still searching for their first Premier League win of the season.

The away game at Spurs represents a tough assignment considering the form of both sides.

Harry Kane scored a brace as Tottenham eased past Huddersfield 2-0 last weekend, while the Bluebirds sank to another home defeat to Burnley.

Harry Kane scored more Fantasy Football points than any other striker last season (Image: PA)
And although England captain Kane is available to face Cardiff, he will be without key attacking partners Alli (hamstring) and Eriksen (thigh), as well as Belgium internationals Vertonghen (hamstring) and Dembele (thigh).

Aurier is the other player sidelined, again with a thigh injury, although Kieran Trippier has been the first choice right-back for Spurs this season.

Kane will likely be joined by Lucas Moura and Heung-Min Son in Pochettino's frontline, with Eric Dier and Harry Winks expected to feature in midfield. Davinson Sanchez is the main candidate to deputise for Vertonghen in the heart of defence.

Pochettino will be forced to play a full strength side in the crucial Champions League tie against Barcelona tomorrow (Wednesday), which could leave him further hampered depending on injuries and players' fitness.

Ruined Wembley pitch branded a 'disgrace' and 'embarrassment' just days before Tottenham v Cardiff City

Thursday 4th October 2018

The Wembley pitch has come in for significant criticism after it appeared a little worse for wear just days before Cardiff City are due to face Tottenham there this weekend.

Spurs welcomed Barcelona to London in the Champions League and much of the talk has been about the poor state of the surface.

Angry fans and pundits branded the bobbly surface a 'disgrace' and an 'embarrassment' for such a prestigious occasion.

Heavyweight boxing world champion Anthony Joshua fought at the venue just 10 days ago, which meant the pitch was covered for the ring and ringside seats to be put in.

And it appears to have left a lasting mark on the playing surface, with the Bluebirds heading to Wembley on Saturday.

Tottenham vs Cardiff City Preview: Kane to inflict more misery on Bluebirds

October 4, 2018

By Sam Pilger Premier League

In the wake of Tottenham’s impressive 3-0 victory over Manchester United at the end of August there was excited talk that Mauricio Pochettino’s side might actually be able to mount a title challenge.

But after suffering defeats in their next two games to Watford and Liverpool, Tottenham have since had to face reality, and their task for this season is now more to remain in the top four for a fourth consecutive season.

After failing to sign a single player in the summer, and being forced to stay at Wembley with their return to their new stadium delayed, to keep their place in the top four would represent a successful season for Tottenham.

The gap between Tottenham and the leaders Manchester City and Liverpool currently stands at four points, and will inevitably increase over the coming weeks, but that should not be how to judge their season.

Despite suffering a 4-2 loss to Barcelona on Wednesday night, Tottenham have won their last two games in the Premier League against Brighton, and last weekend at Huddersfield, and will be confident about adding another victory when Cardiff visit Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

The gnawing concern for Tottenham, however, is their over reliance on their leading scorer Harry Kane, who scored twice in their 2-0 win at Huddersfield last weekend (to claim a spot in our team of the week), and comfortably sits at the top of Twelve’s player leader board for the club.

Tottenham vs Cardiff City Premier League Preview

Beyond Kane, Tottenham’s options for orthodox strikers are limited to the untrusted duo of Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen.

At the start of the season, there was hope that the Brazilian Lucas Moura was beginning to show his true form and could shoulder some of the goal scoring with Kane, but after his double at Old Trafford in August, he has failed to score in his next six games in all competitions. Here’s Moura’s dashboard for the four league games since the United win, which shows a distinct lack of action in opposition penalty boxes.

After being reduced to spectators at yet another Lionel Messi master class in their 4-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League, Tottenham will certainly be relieved to now face Cardiff City.

After seven games, Neil Warnock’s side are still waiting for their first win and appear to be a Championship side on sabbatical in the Premier League, already prepared to be sucked back down there at the end of the season.

The Welsh side are nineteenth in the table on only two points in what has become their worst start to a campaign since the 1964/65 season.

There is precious little to give Cardiff any hope; they have the joint worst defence in the Premier League, having let in 16 goals, and have managed just four of their own, failing to score in four of their seven games.

It won’t instill confidence in the Cardiff squad that Warnock is already talking like a beaten man who is getting his excuses in early.

“We’ve got there [the Premier League] too quick though, we’ve been victims of our own success,” he said after their 2-1 defeat to Burnley last weekend. “Every few months we’ve jumped up two steps, rather than one. You can’t say no to the Premier League though.”

“How do I fix us looking vulnerable? I haven’t got a clue if I am honest. We can’t work any harder than we do at defending. I can’t be on the pitch to tell them what to do.”

Lawro's prediction

Mark Lawrenson is expecting a tough afternoon for Cardiff City...

“This is going to be a very different test for Tottenham after their defeat by Barcelona in midweek.”

“Spurs just have to look at that Barca game in isolation, and forget about it, because it will have no bearing on this game.”

“Cardiff will try to close Tottenham down and stop them playing but it is going to be difficult for them at Wembley.”

“The Bluebirds are in a similar situation to Huddersfield in that they are down at the bottom of the table and do not appear to have the personnel to do much about it.”

“At the top end, with two of the three teams above them - Manchester City and Liverpool - playing each other, this is a big chance for Tottenham to get closer to at least one of them.”

Prediction: 3-0

Injury has also ruled out Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele for the visit of Cardiff.

Junior Hoilett is available, having missed last weekend's defeat against Burnley with a virus.

Fellow midfielder Aron Gunnarsson remains sidelined with a knee problem but could be fit to face Fulham after the international break.

Spurs team news: Tottenham name five men who won’t play vs Cardiff

Saturday 6th October 2018

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed on their official twitter feed that five first-team players will miss their match against Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.

The showdown with the Welsh side is a big one for Spurs, as they look to continue their solid start to their domestic campaign, and put the misery of their Champions League exploits in midweek behind them.

Although they lost to Barcelona on Wednesday evening, given the players that were missing, Tottenham put up a decent account of themselves, and a repeat of that performance should be enough to gain all three points at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Serge Aurier, Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko all missed the match against the Spanish champions in the week, and all five will be out when Cardiff head to London.

Mauricio Pochettino has gone on record as saying that he expects the quintet to be available for his side after the upcoming international break, but that does nothing to help his team when they take on the Welsh outfit.

Their absence is an opportunity for others who might not usually play to come in and succeed. The likes of Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks and Son Heung-Min will get the chance to impress on the Wembley turf.

One man who is ready to make a return for Pochettino is goalkeeper Michel Vorm. Much has been made about the mental state and the form of Hugo Lloris, so it could be that the former Swansea City stopper gets a chance here, although it is more likely that he will have to make do with a place on the bench.

As ever, all eyes will be on Harry Kane to see if he can find the net before he joins up with England for their UEFA Nations League matches next week.

Cardiff City take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, with the Bluebirds still looking for their first win of the season against Harry Kane and company:

This will be the third Premier League meeting between Spurs and Cardiff, with Spurs winning both matches 1-0 during the 2013-14 season.

Spurs have won their last seven home matches in all competitions against Cardiff, scoring 19 goals and conceding just five.

Cardiff are winless in their seven Premier League games so far this season – only twice in their history have they failed to win any of their first eight games to a league campaign (1964-65 in the second tier and 1989-90 in the third division).

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has scored against 26 of the 27 different sides he’s faced in the Premier League. The only side he’s yet to find the net against are Cardiff – he played just 16 minutes against them across two games in the 2013-14 campaign.
