The alarming bets bookies are now taking on Cardiff City as national media give verdict on 'toothless' Bluebirds after Burnley loss

Premier League relegation odds: 1/5 Cardiff; 2/7 Huddersfield; 9/4 Burnley; 9/4 Newcastle; 11/4 Fulham; 7/2 Brighton; 4/1 Southampton.

Monday 1st October 2018

Cardiff City are without a win in seven Premier League matches this season following their 2-1 defeat to Burnley.

Neil Warnock's men have just two points to their name and are only being kept off the foot of the table due to Huddersfield Town's inferior goal difference.

Their latest defeat saw Burnley score with both of their two efforts on target, with headers from Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Sam Vokes earning Sean Dyche's men all three points in South Wales.

And bookmakers have reacted to the Bluebirds' winless start by offering odds on some alarming bets as far as the Cardiff faithful are concerned.

William Hill are offering odds of 16/1 for Warnock's side to fail to win a single Premier League game this season.

And they will also give you odds of 10/1 for Cardiff to win 10 or fewer points in the league during the course of the 2018/19 campaign, a tally that would break the lowest ever amount achieved by Derby during the 2007/08 season.

"Cardiff’s Premier League dream is fast becoming a nightmare and it looks as though they could be setting some unwanted records before the season is out," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Premier League relegation odds: 1/5 Cardiff; 2/7 Huddersfield; 9/4 Burnley; 9/4 Newcastle; 11/4 Fulham; 7/2 Brighton; 4/1 Southampton.

Here's how the national media assessed the Bluebirds' display against the Clarets.

The Daily Mail's Riath Al-Samarrai wrote: "There was a moment on Sunday when Neil Warnock let off the sigh of a bruised man who knows more heavy punches are coming.

"He had been putting a brave face on it for a few minutes – Cardiff should have had a penalty, he said, before explaining the many and varied ways that Burnley had been played off the park. And then he touched on his club’s supporters - no group quite like them in the league.

"And all of that might well be true. But the giveaway, the real indicator of what this season is becoming, came when he mentioned that Cardiff’s next three games include away trips to Tottenham and Liverpool. He couldn’t help but chuckle the chuckle of the damned.

"Bleak doesn’t really begin to cover it, not when October comes around and there’s still a big round zero in the win column."

The Daily Mirror simply wrote: "Poor Cardiff might be used to being beaten – but this one really must hurt.

"It could prove an expensive defeat come the shake-up at the end of the season and that’s what stings the most.

"They could have had no idea what was in store for them and that’s just as well. Cardiff really do need to start picking up points or it could be a long, hard winter."

And the Guardian's Stuart James said: "These are still early days but the season is already shaping up to be a slog for Cardiff City.

"Toothless up front and nowhere near good enough defensively, Cardiff were picked off by a Burnley side who scored from their only two attempts on target.

Cardiff City 1-2 Burnley

"The bigger picture is worrying for Cardiff. They have now failed to win in eight games in all competitions this season – the first time that has happened since the 1964-65 campaign – and it is hard to see things improving for Warnock and his players any time soon.

"They travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and the away trip after that is Liverpool."

Cardiff face Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday in what will be their final game before the international break, with Fulham visiting Cardiff City Stadium on October 20.

I know many will disagree with me here and who's to say they may be right and I'm wrong but to be honest I'm getting really upset by the media image we are portraying and I fear it will take a long, long time for us to overcome the image of a "joke" team. Yes, maybe I shouldn't be so much of a snowflake but it saddens me, and we're still in the early reaches of the season. Bang goes the hope we will be able to attract local youngsters in their masses as the next generation of supporters. At that age they are very sensitive to ridicule and it sticks. Sometimes parsimony can be viscerally damaging. ;)

If two years ago today someone said don’t worry we will be playing Spurs in the Premiership in 24 months we would all say in your dreams. Yes we need a finisher yes we need to be more street wise in defence but most importantly if we go down we will not be wondering how to pay the bills. Let’s enjoy the journey and who knows we have always played well at Wembley

We as fans always knew it was going to be a long season, especially with the fixtures list and the lack of Premier League experienced players in our squad but no matter what happens we will just have to keep supporting the boys on the pitch. The team needs us throughout the hard times this season and no matter what all the media and tv pundits say this is our team, this is Cardiff City. Let's show the english top league what the best welsh team can do. Bluebirds Bluebirds :ayatollah:

Keep flying high bluebirds we will get our first win against Fulham. :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Early days, we were very unlucky and could/should have won.

It's any three of seven, being the bottom six and Burnley!
