'Harry Kane was worried for his teammate' - Match of the Day pundits' verdict on Cardiff City red card controversy at Spurs -

Sunday 7th October 2018

Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright questioned Neil Warnock's complaints at the red card Joe Ralls received in Cardiff City's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder saw red just before the hour mark after hacking down Lucas Moura, prompting a furious reaction from the players on the pitch, Warnock on the touchline and from fans afterwards.

The Bluebirds couldn't recover with 10-men and succumbed to their fifth defeat of the season.

And Wright, analysing the Cardiff game on the BBC flagship highlights show, said Warnock had nothing to complain about. He even argued Spurs striker Harry Kane was within his rights to rush over to Ralls in the incident's aftermath.

"Why is he unhappy with that? You can't complain at that," said the former Arsenal and England striker.

Wright agreed with Spurs goal-scorer Eric Dier, who during his interview on the programme suggesting Ralls could have been a bit cuter in deliberately fouling Moura without endangering his opponent.

Wright, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker all seemed to agree with Mike Dean's decision to brandish a red card.

"Eric Dier pointed it out perfectly, you could just clipped him," added Wright.

"He's really had a go at him, scythed him down there.

"And (Warnock) says they're surrounding him (the referee) but you want your captain to do that. Harry Kane is just worried for his teammate.

"He (Ralls) didn't have to do it. Cardiff were in it for a while, it was only 1-0."

Fellow pundit Shearer also had some strong words for Junior Hoilett, who spurned Cardiff's best chance of the game, failing to bundle home after Josh Murphy raced through and chipped goalwards.

Hoilett allowed Toby Alderweireld to come across and clear from off the line.

"Cardiff have scored just four goals this season and they need to score more, but this is a classic example of having to do more," said Shearer, analysing the chance.

"It was brilliant from Josh Murphy to get in behind but come on! You've got to put yourself in the goal, put the defender in the goal and more importantly that ball has got to go in the net.

"Don't just turn away and try and sidefoot it, put it in the back of the net."

If he was that worried about his player, he should have gone over to see if or how badly injured he was. Interesting fact to hear is the City are one of the only premier league teams, he hasn’t scored against. Long may it continue.

If that had have been a cardiff city player going over like kane did they would have said what is he getting involved for but because it's the golden boy they come up with all this boll...s somebody should have told kane to shut his big mouth its open most of the time like a basking shark.
