VILLA LATEST...

08/10/18

Aston Villa are still working through the first interviews with a shortlist managers, according to Sky sources.

However, the Championship club will take as much of the two-week window as needed to run the process and they are not near to picking the manager yet.

VILLA MANAGER LATEST

Sky Sports News understands Thierry Henry is the strong favourite to take over as the new manager of Aston Villa, though Villa’s bosses still retain an interest in Celtic manager Brendan Rogers. If either man takes over at Villa Park, John Terry is being lined up as a possible assistant manager or first team coach.

An initial shortlist of five names has now been narrowed down to just these two. Henry has already held talks with Villa’s hierarchy, and those meetings have been described as “very positive”.

But the Championship club have been mindful not to make any formal approach to Celtic, as they had an away game in the Salzburg in the Champions League on Thursday, and as they prepare for a game against St Johnstone this afternoon.

It isn’t clear whether Rodgers would be interested in a move to England’s second tier. Nevertheless, we’ve been told Henry is now the prime candidate, and if negotiations progress well, he could take over at Villa Park within a week.
