Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to miss Wales' friendly with Spain at Principality Stadium -

Wednesday 10th October 2018

Ryan Giggs admits he's resigned to being without talisman Gareth Bale for Wales' friendly with Spain at Principality Stadium on Thursday night.

The Real Madrid star has been suffering with a muscle problem and was withdrawn late on in his side's 1-0 La Liga defeat to Alaves at the weekend.

Wales planned to give Bale as much time as possible to prove his fitness ahead of the visit of the 2010 World Cup winners.

But Bale will miss out on the chance of coming up against several of his Real Madrid team mates, including central defender Sergio Ramos, although Giggs hopes that Bale will be fit to return for the Nations League clash with Republic of Ireland at Dublin's Aviva Stadium on Tuesday night.

"He's extremely doubtful for tomorrow," said Giggs.

"He's got a little bit of muscle fatigue from the weekend. It's nothing serious, we're just monitoring it daily. We'll give him every chance for Tuesday."

And when asked if he's resigned to Bale not being available for selection against Spain, Giggs replied: "Yes.

"We just want what's best for Gareth, for the team, and for Real Madrid aswell.

"He had a scan a couple of weeks ago with Real Madrid and had another scan this week. He feels good, but we just have to weigh up the risk.

"I'm not worried about Gareth and he's not worried. We'll take no chances.

"The medical team are constantly in dialogue with Real Madrid, like we are with every team."

Newcastle United left-back Paul Dummett withdrew from the squad at the weekend due to a hamstring problem, with Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon earning a call-up to the senior squad having originally been named in Rob Page's Under-21 side.

Elsewhere, Giggs has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the clash with Luis Enrique's troops.

Bale is getting older, and seems a bit injury prone. Probably see a bit less of him in friendlies. I had doubts about going tomorrow, (dislike of the egg stadium), but relented. Hope we put on a decent performance, but without Bale we can be pretty ordinary. Here's hoping I'm wrong, though.
