Are you seriously saying that the PL is, "100x harder," this season than in 2013-14? Clearly it is not. In fact by PL standards there are some really poor teams this time around. Both Brighton and Burnley, teams that would hope to finish in mid-table, were distinctly limited when they played us.
On the second issue of Malky having more money to spend it is interesting to note the actual transfer business the two summers we were promoted.
Values according to Transfermarkt
Summer 2013
Mendel £11.7m
Caulker £8.24m
Cornelius £7.23m
Theophile-Catherine £2.25m
Odemwingie £2.61m
Brayford £1.57m
Moore £0.58m
Total: £34.18m
Summer 2018
Murphy £10.26m
Reid £10.22m
Cunningham £3.6m
Smithies £3.6m
Total: £27.68m
The difference was £6.5m or in other words this summer we spent 81% of the 2013 total.Incidentally, if you add the Madine transfer fee (£6m), a player clearly signed with an eye on promotion in the window before promotion, and the totals are similar.

The top 6/7 now the gap is so huge you rarely see any of the lower teams getting anything against the Top 6! They play In their own league and they only drop points to other top 6 teams!
There is one horrible and clear differences and is shown from these stats: our defence has really let Warnock down this season! Countless lacks of concentration, Arsenal, Burnley and even Saturday you just can't defend like that and hope to stay up. Briton got 3 x 1-0 in a row. You need to be solid at this level.
Morrison has improved as the season has moved on but I'd give Bamba and Manga the opportunity until Jan and then a CB, Striker & RB would be top of my wish list in Jan

Great post.
I’m convinced Malky would have kept us up if he had stayed. I watch a lot of premier football and in no way whatsoever can I see that it’s 100% better than when we were there last.

Results from just last season have no bearing on this season. Teams change almost every year. How many players on the pitch for either side who played in the 5-0 defeat also played in our 3-2 win?
