TEAM NEWS :thumbright:

West Ham could be without one of their key men, with Aaron Cresswell set to undergo a late fitness test.

The full-back has played in each of the Hammers' last six games, but he could miss out with a hamstring injury that forced him off after 11 minutes against Newcastle.

England striker Andy Carroll could make his first appearance of the season after being included in the squad to face Newcastle.

Jack Wilshere could also feature, having returned from injury to make a cameo appearance at St. James' Park.

Ryan Fredericks, Winston Reid, Carlos Sanchez, Manuel Lanzini and Andriy Yarmolenko all remain sidelined with long-term injuries.

As for the Bluebirds, it could be a largely unchanged team to Friday night with the same injury concerns remaining for Warnock.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing could be handed a start following a three-month lay-off with a knee injury after being an unused substitute last Friday.

Jazz Richards has been ruled out, while Greg Cunningham has done some light work and Joe Bennett has been training after not being risked against Wolves.

Kenneth Zohore is starting to step up his recovery but the West Ham match will likely come too soon.

About West Ham United

West Ham United Football Club is a professional football club based in Stratford, East London, England. They compete in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. The club re-located to the London Stadium in 2016.

The club was founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks and reformed in 1900 as West Ham United. They moved to the Boleyn Ground in 1904, which remained their home ground for more than a century. The team initially competed in the Southern League and Western League before joining the Football League in 1919. They were promoted to the top flight in 1923, when they were also losing finalists in the first FA Cup Final held at Wembley. In 1940, the club won the inaugural Football League War Cup.

West Ham have been winners of the FA Cup three times, in 1964, 1975, and 1980, and have also been runners-up twice, in 1923, and 2006. The club have reached two major European finals, winning the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965 and finishing runners-up in the same competition in 1976. West Ham also won the Intertoto Cup in 1999. They are one of eight clubs never to have fallen below the second tier of English football, spending 60 of 92 league seasons in the top flight, up to and including the 2017–18 season. The club's highest league position to date came in 1985–86, when they achieved third place in the then First Division.

Three West Ham players were members of the 1966 World Cup final-winning England team: captain Bobby Moore and goalscorers Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters.

Our last fixture against West Ham was a Premier League fixture at Cardiff Stadium in January 2014. We lost 2-0 after goals from Carlton Cole and Mark Noble.

WEST HAM UNITED TEAM NEWS

Aaron Cresswell (hamstring) is a doubt having hobbled off in the win against Newcastle. With the games coming thick and fast, he is unlikely to be risked tomorrow. Ryan Fredericks, Andriy Yarmolenko, Winston Reid, Manuel Lanzini and Carlos Sanchez are long-term absentees.

TEAM NEWS
@Mark_Scott_

West Ham defenders Aaron Cresswell and Fabian Balbuena are fitness doubts to face Cardiff.

Ryan Fredericks, Manuel Lanzini, Winston Reid, Carlos Sanchez and Andriy Yarmolenko remain out.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing could make his first Cardiff appearance since late August after overcoming a knee injury.

Jazz Richards has been ruled out, while Greg Cunningham, Joe Bennett and Kenneth Zohore are not expected to be rushed into action
.

Discounting their heavy defeat by Manchester City, West Ham have had a good last month or so, with a better barometer of their current form coming in the shape of their comfortable recent victories over fellow bottom-half sides.

On paper their forthcoming fixtures provide a decent opportunity for them to climb the table, as their next three games are all against teams currently below them.

However, Cardiff have picked up of late and the fact they've come from behind in all of their three wins this season has given Neil Warnock extra cause for cheer. Looking at the Bluebirds' haul of goals and points on the road though may dampen his mood just a little.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini: "To win three more points is what we must do here at home. One of the most important mistakes you can do is to think that because a team is in a bad position in the table it will be an easy game.

"The best games we played here were against Chelsea and Manchester United. I hope we are conscious tomorrow about that. I hope we give maximum of our pace and quality to have three points more and after that to think of the next rival."

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock: "We've always hung in and got results. I can't praise the lads enough. They're such a good group. We know we're limited but when the crowd get going, it drives you on.

"We're struggling a bit injury-wise. Another couple of lads had knocks. I was going to change it and rest players but I don't think I can now. I'll have to ask the lads to perform three times in a week."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Cardiff's win over Wolves on Friday night was a brilliant result for them, but they have been struggling on the road, taking only one point from six matches.

Prediction: 2-0

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

West Ham are on a six-match winning streak against Cardiff, keeping clean sheets in five of them.
Cardiff's only victory in their past 18 competitive fixtures at West Ham came on the opening weekend of the 2011-12 Championship season (D5, L12).

The Hammers are unbeaten in all nine top-flight home meetings, winning six and drawing three.
West Ham United

West Ham could win consecutive Premier League fixtures for the first time since January 2017.

The Hammers' only league defeat in five games came against reigning champions Manchester City.

They have conceded 52 Premier League goals in 2018, a joint-league high with Southampton.

Andy Carroll could make his 200th Premier League appearance. He hasn't played since May but was an unused substitute on Saturday.

Cardiff City

Cardiff have accrued three wins and nine points from their past six league games, compared to no victories and two points from their first eight fixtures of the season.

Their total of two away league goals is the lowest in the top four English divisions.

Cardiff and Fulham have the Premier League's joint worst away record, earning a solitary point apiece.

The Bluebirds have picked up nine of their 11 points this season from trailing positions, second only to Arsenal. They are the only two sides yet to lead a Premier League game at half time this season.

Cardiff City hope to secure back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season when they take on West Ham at the London Stadium tonight.

West Ham United have won their last six matches in all competitions against Cardiff City, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two in those wins.

This is the first league meeting between West Ham and Cardiff since the 2013-14 season, when the Hammers won both matches 2-0 in the Premier League under Sam Allardyce.

West Ham have lost their last three home Premier League games against promoted sides, more than they had in their previous 17 such games in the competition (W11 D4 L2).

They’ve never lost four consecutive top-flight home games vs promoted sides.

Cardiff have lost seven of their eight Premier League games in London, including the last six in a row. Their only victory came at Fulham in September 2013.

Cardiff are looking to secure consecutive top-flight victories for the first time since April 1962 – the second win back then came against West Ham (3-0).

Neil Warnock on West Ham v Cardiff City

“We’ll try to be positive,” said the Cardiff boss.

“We’re struggling a little bit injury-wise so we haven’t got a lot of options at the moment.

“They’ve got a very, very good front four - as good as anyone in the division, but we’ve got to go there and try and compete.

“We’ll have our hands full, but I do feel that people like Bruno [Ecuele Manga], Mozza [Morrison] and Sol [Bamba] are playing really well. I don’t think we’re in awe of anyone.

“It’s important that we’re very strong and well organised to start with, but I do feel we’ve got a few more options to actually change a game, with Mendez[-Laing] coming back too, which is important at this level.”
