The third round is scheduled to take place over the weekend of Saturday 5 January 2019.

Hoping for the jacks but failing that, a lower league side away :bluebird:

I always want the big game but as we have them all this year anyway i would prefer a small team and ground i have not been to.

Guiseley, Solihull or Slough away

Wrexham or Newport away would both be popular trips aswell

Hopefully Warnock will treat the cup this year as (B) games and rest our key players. We cant afford injuries

Tranmere away please, 5 mins from my house. Waited too long for Cardiff to draw them.

Whoever it is I hope we've got the sense to put a reserve team out.
We can't be diverted by this

I agree
Not sure if players outside the 25 man squad can play though ? I assume they can.

I would go with something like this no matter who we draw!

Smithies

Richards
Connolly
Cunningham
Coxe

Ralls
Damour
Tomlin
Pilkington

Madine/Ward
Zahore

Completely disagree only chance for silverware we should be going for this big time as should every other lower end prem team.

Yes you can rest a few blood a few youngsters in it of course but cup runs are the best things in my time watching city. No reason we shouldn’t be looking at challenging for this with the right draws.

Yeah that'll be very nice when we're comfortably established in the top ten in the premiership or alternatively in the event that we find ourselves in the third division with nothing better to do.
In the mean time, we've got much more important business at the sharp end of football and we can't afford to get relegated because our thinly stretched resources are depleted by injuries playing in the FA Cup, which is in any case a much less prestigious trophy than it used to be.

hoping for Swansea, Newport or Wrexham
A Nice all welsh tie would be nice.

If not this then I am hoping for a lower league side, maybe someone in the league below league 2.

It’s a stupid thing to say for all top division clubs. What’s our goal then to just keep surviving for a few seasons. Till fans start becoming bully big bollocks and moaning about the manager/style of play/lack of spending etc. Then get releagted like so many teams before us. Nah f**k that I’d rather win the FA cup and get relegated if given the choice. Though their is no reason we can’t have a cup run and stay up. At the end of the day it’s a max of 6 games.

Re: “ FA CUP THIRD ROUND DRAW “

Would much rather give it a go in the cup than just exist as a struggling premier league club. No point even being in the premier if we are not going to try and win something.

My fear is we will get a draw against an average team, say a Bolton, field a weak side who are not interested and go out tamely.

Agreed. I want to see city lift silverware. Not just the championship trophy or the runners up trophy. :laughing6:

Re: “ FA CUP THIRD ROUND DRAW “

Mon Dec 03, 2018 6:44 pm

Don't worry chaps City will tamely bow out in the 3rd or 4th round like every other season with NW.

I agree with posters who say let's win some silverware. IMO life's too short to be saying there's too much at stake to make some effort to compete in a few cup matches. Premier League survival would be fantastic but why not have a fun cup run.

Re: “ FA CUP THIRD ROUND DRAW “

Mon Dec 03, 2018 7:08 pm

I think Premier League survival should be our only aim. Not the season for a cup run.

In his time with us, Warnock has had little interest in progressing in the cups.

A lot depends on who we draw though. If we draw Swansea, he’ll probably feel obliged to put out the first team.

No, our goal at the moment is to establish ourselves in the premier league, which will take 2/5 seasons if we do it in a solid and progressive manner and at the same time get the financial side stable as well because we'll need to spend more and more if we continue to progress .
The first thing in this process is to make sure that we don't get relegated and I don't know whether you've noticed that everyone is already at full stretch to do this. In fairness players are playing beyond what they probably thought their potentials were and we're really having to stretch rescources so we just can't afford the possible injuries and extra fatigue on players for the sake of this bloody nonsense.
As I said, it'd be a nice embellishment if and when we could afford the risk but in the mean time we need a sense of priorities

Re: “ FA CUP THIRD ROUND DRAW “

Don't mean to be rude, but when I see people here say stuff like that , or when they suggest some ridiculous team selection or tactic , it makes me wonder if they've got a bloody clue what's going on

No the goal is to win football matches and entertain the fans.
Going on a cup run does both.

Re: “ FA CUP THIRD ROUND DRAW “

Mon Dec 03, 2018 9:08 pm

It's not to entertain people - you're thinking of Alton Towers.
If we win and consolidate our position then we'll be able to play entertaining football sometimes, but entertainment isn't the priority at the moment at all.

yes would be nice to win a cup....but the last four 3rd round games at home have attracted between 4k and 6k..we failed to sell our allocation at Boro for a QF or Palace for a lge cup semi where we also failed to sell out the 2nd leg..
cups are not a fans favourite anymore...…..shame but true

It’s the sort of thinking that makes me hate football this idea that playing a max of 6 extra games spread over months will have any kind of meaningful impact on how you should preform over the course of a league season is nothing but an excuse for teams that haven’t been good enough.

Obviously against the likes of Gillingham you can rest a few and bring a few youngsters through. You should still expect to win though and treat it seriously not like a joke comp. Was a rubbish draw for us but at least it’s leas boring than a prem or champ club. Would have preferred a home draw but oh well a game we should be winning to advance further in the oldest cup competition in professional football and the only top class major honour this club has ever won. Why not try to win it again instead of accepting mediocrity :ayatollah:

The draw was made at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening with Gills boss Steve Lovell present at Chelsea Football Club where Mark Chapman conducted proceedings with Ruud Gullit and Paul Ince in charge of drawing the ties.
