Paul, I agree fully!
The term 'City Legend' is bandied about far too often; but Phil Dwyer 100% fits the profile!

Remember talking to him with my dad when he was on duty at an away game at Newport in the late eighties. Top man and great servant of our club. Get well soon !

Really sad. Was thinking of him at the weekend as I remembered a game against Southampton in late 70s when he scored in a 1-0 home win on a rainy night

Yes, a true City legend. He is still to be seen on Level 4 most games and I sat behind him at the recent Denmark game as well. For those who are to young to have seen him, there is a similarity with Patterson. He was an uncompromising defender - a City full back who played at centre forward for Wales against England at Ninian Park and scored. Peter Nicholas said recently that he was the hardest player he ever encountered.
He has been looking well recently. I spoke to him after the a game recently and asked him which opponent he found hardest to handle. He thought for a moment and said ..'Well George Best was a bit tricky'. Well one thing is for sure, very few got the better of Phil Dwyer.
Speedy recovery Joe.

Younger forum members will find it hard to relate to a player who was from the city, played for the city and was a fan too. A different era. Also played baseball for Wales I seem to remember but apologies if that's wrong.
What a player. Heart as big as the Bob Bank roof. One of my all time favourites and he and Don Murray must be the physically strongest players I have seen wear the blue shirt. I hope he recovers of course so best wishes to him and his family.
