REPORTS: BLUEBIRDS BID HIGH FOR SALA!

Fri Dec 07, 2018 4:56 pm

Daily Mail Online are saying Cardiff City have bid £25 million for Emiliano Sala

Sportsmail revealed manager Neil Warnock watched the Argentine score in Nantes' 3-2 win over Marseille on Wednesday and the Welsh club have followed up with a bid to take the prolific striker in January.

Warnock admitted he was also casting his eye over Marseille full-back Bouna Sarr and a midfielder, understood to be Nantes' Abdoulaye Toure, in the same game.

However, a striker is a priority and Cardiff are now pushing to get a deal done for 13-goal Sala ahead of competition from Premier League rivals.

"He [Sala] has scored some good goals this year," said Warnock.

"He didn't have a very good game the other night, but he's done well. And the Marseille lad did well as well. It could have been a full-back or a midfielder but, if I told you the name, it wouldn't be as interesting a story then, would it?"

Pacy and at 6ft 2in, Sala is the kind of busy, physically imposing forward Warnock is looking for as he aims to bolster Cardiff's bid for Premier League survival.

"I'd like someone who could score 25 goals in the next three months," joked Warnock.

"We all know what we need. It's no good looking for a certain type of player because they've got to be able to work hard as well as put the ball in the net."

Warnock will have money at his disposal in January but a fee of £25m is more than double Cardiff's record transfer fee - the £11m paid to Sevilla for Gary Medel in 2013.

"We've got to find the players that we want and then recommend the players to the club," added the 70-year-old Yorkshireman.

"Then it's down to the club if they can do a deal, whether it's a permanent or a loan - because loans aren't cheap. It's a very difficult time January. You will get knockbacks. We'll try and have as many back-ups as we can."

If 25 million secures a place in the Premier League that is worth a 100 million to the Club then it's worth doing, just have to persuade Vincent!

We'll need to spend another £25m on a quality midfielder to provide him with the opportunity to put the ball in the net.

Or on a centre half who can hoof it straight onto his head.

He's 28 and only been playing professional football for 6 years according to Wikipedia. If it is £25M (transfer market value £13M) i'm guessing most would be based on us surviving

Not fast as highlighted below but probably the type we need for the likes of Reid

Who is the top-scoring Argentinian in Europe’s big leagues so far this season? It’s not Mauro Icardi, Gonzalo Higuaín, Lionel Messi or Sergio Agüero. That illustrious quartet are looking up at Emiliano Sala, a lanky 28-year-old striker who has never played for the national team. Sala scored a brace against hapless Guingamp this weekend to take his tally for the season into double figures, which is all the more remarkable given that Nantes have already sacked and replaced a manager this season.

When the season kicked off, Miguel Cardoso was in charge and Sala was not in his plans. The striker was nearly shipped to Galatasaray on the last day of the transfer window – a move the player was reportedly keen on – with Kalifa Coulibaly preferred in attack. Two goals from the bench in Nantes’ first three matches offered a solid rebuttal from Sala, who had scored a dozen league goals (no mean feat under previous managers Claudio Ranieri and René Girard) in each of his previous campaigns, but surely felt marginalised by the arrival of Majeed Waris along with an attacking philosophy that implied a lone striker. Sala’s goals were not enough to save Cardoso, who was replaced last month by the veteran manager Vahid Halilhodzic.

Halilhodzic is nothing short of a cult figure at Nantes, having won the title with the club as a player in the 1982-83 season, when he was also their top scorer. His managerial record has been a bit of a mixed bag. He has impressed in France and earned qualification to the World Cup with three different countries – with the Ivory Coast in 2010, Algeria in 2014 and Japan in 2018 – but he has also endured forgettable spells in charge of Trabzonspor and Rennes.

His arrival at the Stade de la Beaujoire, however, has been an unqualified success. Nantes have found a new lease of life under Halilhodzic, having been prosaic for so long under Girard, Ranieri and Michel Der Zakarian since their most recent promotion to the top flight in 2013. They have scored 14 goals in their last four matches – all of which have ended in victory and with Sala on the scoresheet

Germany's most intriguing derby is back – in the second division

Halilhodzic knows all about scoring goals for Nantes, having set the club’s record goal tally of 29 in the 1984-85 season, and his attacking philosophy has certainly borne fruit this season. When asked about his prolific striker, the Bosnian manager hinted that Sala has not just improved on the pitch: “He scores? So what, he’s paid to do that. The goalkeeper doesn’t score. When I arrived, the lad had a very low level of morale, but he went to work. He’s not the type of striker we often see today, playing with his back to goal, but he gives our attack a focal point.”

Nantes have not had a focal point for a long time. The last time their top scorer hit more than 12 goals in a season was back in the 1999-2000 campaign. Sala was helped to his brace this weekend by some abject Guingamp defending a soft penalty but, make no mistake, he looks reinvigorated, surrounded by the creativity and pace of Anthony Limbombé and Gabriel Boschilia on the flanks. Sala’s ungainly style and lack of pace have made him a figure of fun in some quarters but he has continued to evolve, playing a slightly more withdrawn role to allow for the diagonal runs of his fellow attackers. At heart though he fits into the archetype of the powerful South American striker who is blessed with more physical gifts than elegance.

Sala made the move to Europe as a teenager to join the Bordeaux academy. He showed flashes of goalscoring prowess during loan spells at Caen and second-division Niort, but never really impressed for Bordeaux’s first team so was moved to Nantes for around €1m in 2015. He was far from prolific in his first season at the club – scoring just six goals in 31 appearances – but quickly endeared himself to fans with his hard work and willingness to press from the front; he was even happy to play in a wide role or off another striker at times

Now, with a team based around his talent and a manager willing to give his squad’s attacking talent greater responsibility, Sala could finally come good. Only Kylian Mbappé has scored more goals in Ligue 1 this season. Very suddenly the sky seems the limit for this unassuming striker.

We aren't bidding 25m. If we had that kind of money surely we would have spent it in the summer and got a proven managed in. It's nonsense.

Plus we need more players .

£25m plus £10-15m for midfielder and defender .

Genuinely can't see it

Neil Warnock confirms interest in £25m-rated Nantes striker Emiliano Sala

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has revealed that he is interested in bringing Nantes striker Emiliano Sala to South Wales.

The 70-year-old, prioritising the signing of a goalscorer in January, was in attendance for the French club's 3-2 win over Marseille on Wednesday night.

Warnock has confirmed press reports that Sala was the player he was watching up close in midweek, along with Marseille full-back Abdoulaye Toure, and the Daily Mail suggests that a £25m offer has now been tabled for the former.

Sala has netted 13 league goals already this season, seeing him linked with the likes of Fulham, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and West Ham United.

Cardiff are currently without a recognised striker, as Kenneth Zohore, Danny Ward and Gary Madine are all carrying injuries.

Cardiff City confirm interest in transfer move for Europe’s top goalscorer
by William Eldridge

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has confirmed the club’s interest in signing Nantes striker Emiliano Sala in the January transfer window.

Sala has been in sensational form this season for the Ligue 1 side and has clearly done enough to attract the attention of the Premier League club.

Warnock travelled to France on Wednesday to see Sala play and score in Nantes 3-2 win over Marseille.

Speaking with reporters about his scouting trip, Warnock confirmed that he is fully aware of Sala’s quality but he hinted that he may have been there to see more than just the Argentinian in action.

“He [Sala] has scored some good goals this year,” Warnock told BBC Sport.

“He didn’t have a very good game the other night, but he’s done well.

“And the Marseille lad did well as well. It could have been a full-back or a midfielder but, if I told you the name, it wouldn’t be as interesting a story then, would it?”

“I’d like someone who could score 25 goals in the next three months,” Warnock joked.

“We all know what we need. It’s no good looking for a certain type of player because they’ve got to be able to work hard as well as put the ball in the net.”

The experienced Warnock spoke in great detail about how difficult it is to improve upon an already financially limited squad, especially in the upcoming winter transfer window.

The 70-year-old revealed how the Welsh outfit tries and scout across the globe to find the right players to join their fight to stay in the Premier League.

“We’ve got to find the players that we want and then recommend the players to the club.

“Then it’s down to the club if they can do a deal, whether it’s a permanent or a loan – because loans aren’t cheap.

“It’s a very difficult time January. You will get knockbacks. We’ll try and have as many back-ups as we can.

“We’re out all the time now in Europe. South America is a little more difficult and certain leagues finish shortly as well – we’ve been looking as far afield as Russia as well.”

We have not bid £25m, as an opening bid you do not bid the maximum he is valued in most places at £13.5m, and they are keen to sell him as his contract is up at the end of the season, I do believe we have put a bid in, but no one has any idea what that bid is except the club

The only way I can see this kind of deal happening is if we pay a loan fee such as £5million till the end of the season then have a clause that we pay £20 million in the summer to keep him permanently if we stay up...still unlikely though I think

Re: REPORTS: BLUEBIRDS BID HIGH FOR SALA!

Sat Dec 08, 2018 12:30 pm

We are usually reported to be interested in some £15m player and then end up with a freebie from Glyncoch Social Club or somewhere similar. More likely to get a £200k player from Dover Athletic than a £20m from France.

Unless Thersea May is conducting the negotiations in which case we will have offered £27 million and will settle at £30 million I would imagine if we had made any offer it will be something like the Madine deal and we may have offered something like £12 million and say another £8 if we stay up plus a clause that we will have to let the player go for a certain amount if we are relegated and will negotiate from there. Don't know how good he is but if we have some fairly big money to spend Tammy Abraham might be a good alternative.

What I don't think people understand is that through over spending last time, it has caused tan to be cautious, its not a crazy thought for tan to give some funds last summer, buy championship players then see where we were at come January. If we were cut adrift save and bank on investing next year in the championship, if we can compete then invest and have a go. Tbh I think it was a wise move as we had no idea where we would be come Jan with what we have. So I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. All he has to say to tan is, this is Murphy we paid 11m so if we spend similar we will get similar. If we want to get what we need here's sala and yes he will probably cost 18m plus ad ons but that's what we need to pay.

I'm just confused as to where all this entitlement has come from, we are in a bonus season, hanging on in there. We're lucky to be here let's enjoy it, I really hope we pick up some youngsters for Dev and with resale possibilities.
Also I think sala could teach zahore alot!!!! Similar stature and potential play style, zahore is still young, could be good for him tbh
