Cardiff City striker Ibrahim Meite attracting interest from clubs in Russia, France and Germany as he prepares to leave on a free

Cardiff City striker Ibrahim Meite is set to leave the club on a free transfer in January with Russia one potential destination.

Meite, 22, made just two first-team appearances for the Bluebirds after joining them in January 2017 and spent the first-half of last season on loan at League Two side Crawley Town.

The forward had a trial with Russian Premier League club FC Ural Yekaterinburg last month at their mid-season training camp in Cyprus.

He played 45 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly against Cypriot top-flight side Enosis Neon Paralimni, scoring in a 4-3 defeat.

As well as Ural, there is also interest from Russian club Spartak Moscow as well as Premier League side Watford, Championship promotion-chasers West Brom, French side Saint-Etienne and German Bundesliga strugglers Hannover.

With interest growing, Meite looks certain to leave Cardiff during the January window.

Born in Roehampton, south-west London, Meite came through the AG Academy before starring for non-league club Harrow Borough, where he scored 13 goals in 28 matches during the 2016-17 season.

That led to a trial with reigning Premier League champions Leicester City in October 2016 before Cardiff manager Neil Warnock snapped the pacey striker up in January 2017.

Meite came off the bench to make his professional debut in Cardiff's 0-0 draw at Wigan Athletic in April 2017 and then played in their EFL Cup tie with Portsmouth at the start of the following season.

He was then loaned out to Crawley, where he found the net three times in 22 outings.
