About Manchester United

Manchester United Football Club, commonly known as Man United, or simply United, is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, that competes in the Premier League, the top flight of English football. Nicknamed "the Red Devils", the club was founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to its current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910.

Manchester United have won more trophies than any other club in English football, with a record 20 League titles, 12 FA Cups, 5 League Cups and a record 21 FA Community Shields. United have also won three UEFA Champions Leagues, one UEFA Europa League, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Intercontinental Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup. In 1998–99, the club became the first in the history of English football to achieve the continental European treble. By winning the UEFA Europa League in 2016–17, they became one of five clubs to have won all three main UEFA club competitions, and the only English club to have won every ongoing top-flight honour available to them.

The 1958 Munich air disaster claimed the lives of eight players. In 1968, under the management of Matt Busby, Manchester United became the first English football club to win the European Cup. Alex Ferguson won 38 trophies as manager, including 13 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups and 2 UEFA Champions Leagues, between 1986 and 2013, when he announced his retirement. José Mourinho is the club's current manager, having been appointed on 27 May 2016.

Manchester United was the highest-earning football club in the world for 2016–17, with an annual revenue of €676.3 million, and the world's most valuable football club in 2018, valued at £3.1 billion. As of June 2015, it is the world's most valuable football brand, estimated to be worth $1.2 billion. After being floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1991, the club was purchased by Malcolm Glazer in May 2005 in a deal valuing the club at almost £800 million, after which the company was taken private again, before going public once more in August 2012, when they made an initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange. Manchester United is one of the most widely supported football clubs in the world, and has rivalries with Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Leeds United.

Their full=backs are bang average and prone to errors... and there other defenders are slow too, so with Patterson occupying them a bit there should be loads of joy for our wide players

Manchester United sack Jose Mourinho ahead of Cardiff City clash

Tuesday 18/12/18

Manchester United have sacked manager Jose Mourinho just days before the Red Devils' clash with Cardiff City.

The Old Trafford outfit are set to appoint a caretaker boss until the end of the season.

A club statement read: "Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.

"The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

"A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager."

Manchester United have sacked Jose Mourinho

The Red Devils are currently 11 points adrift of the top four and trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by 19 points following their 3-1 defeat to Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield on Sunday.

And Mourinho's sacking comes after what has been the club's worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

The Portuguese won the Community Shield, Europa League and the League Cup in his first season at Old Trafford but has failed to land any silverware since then.

Sky Sports have reported that Michael Carrick will take interim charge of the club, with an external appointment set to be announced ahead of United's trip to South Wales this weekend.

They also claim that Carrick - along with Kieran McKenna - will take the club's training sessions until a caretaker boss is installed.

Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is the early favourite with bookmakers to land the role while Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Leonardo Jardim and Laurent Blanc are among those listed.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suffered his first setback as Manchester United's caretaker manager, with star striker Romelu Lukaku set to miss his first two games in charge.

It is understood that Lukaku has spent this week on compassionate leave and is unlikely to return until December 30, ruling him out of two matches.

The news is a blow for the 45-year-old Norwegian, who started a six-month stint in charge of United on Thursday.
