Leicester City's Shinji Okazaki could potentially be on his way to Premier League strugglers Huddersfield Town or Cardiff City.

Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town played out one of the dullest Premier League games of the season on Saturday, drawing 0-0 in South Wales. It could hardly have been clearer that both sides need a new centre-forward as soon as possible.

And, according to The Mirror (16 January, page 57), Cardiff and Huddersfield are going head-to-head to snap up the wantaway Japanese international Shinji Okazaki.

Okazaki has started just one Premier League game so far this season and it is understood that he has told Leicester City boss Claude Puel that he wants to leave the King Power Stadium in pursuit of more regular minutes.

The report points out that the 32-year-old’s wage demands could prove problematic but the fact will be a free agent come the end of the season means Cardiff or Huddersfield could snap him up for a cut-price fee.

But with a lack of alternative forward options available to Puel, The Mirror believes that Leicester would rather keep Okazaki until the summer.

The veteran forward moved to Leicester for £7.5 million from Mainz in 2015 and played a major role as Claudio Ranieri led The Foxes to the Premier League title a year later.
