"Cardiff offered Seven times Sala's his present salary, we could not compete."

Nantes Coach: Vahid Halilhodzic

“Sala was very much appreciated. He’s a very endearing boy. I have no grudge against him. I really enjoyed this player. But the proposed salary weighs in a decision.”

Nantes coach speaks out on Sala

Neil Warnock’s not the only one to have been facing the media today.

Nantes boss Vahid Halilhodzic has been speaking head of his side’s clash with Angers this weekend.

Unsurprisingly, the departure of Emilano Sala is one of the talking points...

“I have to prepare the game. This group, this team needs me. I have to keep my feelings to myself, even if it’s not easy right now.
“For three months, we’ve been working a lot, we’ve put a lot of things in place."

“I received a message from the president last night to inform me that Sala would go away. I also had it this afternoon, we talked about a lot of things.
“Sala is 28-years old. Cardiff offered him six to seven times his salary. I might have made the same decision if I had been in his place,we could not compete.”

So we're paying Sala £60-70k a week? can't be right as he was on 10k at Nantes

Suspect it's not that ammount he was just using a figure of speech probably more like 30k which is not excessive.

Yes Sala was on £10,000 a week at Nantes.

Nantes coach says City paying 6-7 times his current wage.

If he is on 60-70k which I can't imagine is anywhere near, he better score 20 before the season is out :laughing5:

I would not doubt it,in the Premier League main strikers are £60,000 - £150,000 a week, 99% of Prem clubs paying that.

It is shocking.

I thought we would have heard something this afternoon that the medical was okay and he is now a Cardiff City Player

I think we have had to do what Sala and Nantes say to get him Martin.

I hope Sala is worth it.

The Everton striker Oumar Niasse excites me more :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

If Sala plays Sunday for Nantes, Sala can't be a Bluebird till Monday.

He’s just started following Cardiff City on Twitter.

Looks like it will be done today but probably didn’t sign in time for tomorrow.

At least we got Niasse in time for tomorrow :thumbright:

£8k a week at Nantes 5x/6x more with us, he will be on around £40/50k a week!

Re: Virtually a Cardiff City player / as Nantes coach says C

Fri Jan 18, 2019 3:30 pm

I would say it's more like 30-40k a week.

Well done Warnock, Tan and Dalmon, time for a midfielder and right back, and we can give staying up a real good crack !!!

To be honest I think their whole handling of this transfer if it happens has been unprofessional and undignified,to finish off the affair stating what wages he was getting and going to get stinks.
Want the whole saga over with and get on with the football.
Guess it’s just modern football!

They're going to exaggerate to appease their fans. We're going to under play it to appease ours. Most likely his wages are somewhere in between. 30-40k which is acceptable at this level.

It is modern football social media helps spread gossip and false truths, and agents like to play to the media boost their players profile! At end day it's wether he signs or not that's what matters not what goes on in between time.

For the benefit of anyone who's a bit rusty on their languages, it's the manager discussing what they're going to do now that Sala has been SOLD to Cardiff City, and moaning about it.

Depends on the translation. It could be 7 times the value of his existing contract. I think I saw somewhere he has 18 months left at around £10k a week. That’s around £750 k remaining (give or take). 7 times around that is around £5.2m. That’s about £33,300 a week if his new contract is over 3 years. This seems a more realistic figure.

Of course, I am speculating here.

Re: Virtually a Cardiff City player / as Nantes coach says C

Fri Jan 18, 2019 8:32 pm

Nantes will be paying Sala in Euros, so 10,000 Euros = £8,835. Therefore, 6 x = £53,010 and 7 x = £61,845. We are probably paying £55k and the Nantes coach was just guessing the maths.

That’s prob virtually exactly what Sala’s new contract is at Cardiff.
