Lee Mason dropped from refereeing this weekend after Huddersfield Town controversyBy Mel BoothPenalty U-turn followed by fourth official appearanceFollowing his controversial decision to perform a U-turn on awarding Huddersfield Town a penalty against Cardiff City, Lee Mason has been dropped from refereeing a Premier League game this weekend.
Cardiff City's Joe Bennett brought down Flo Hadergjonaj, yet when Mason awarded the penalty, he quickly reversed the decision after consulting with his linesman Stuart Burt.
Fans, players and then boss David Wagner were furious at Mason after his display, and the Terriers felt robbed of three points in what was ultimately Wagner's last game in charge.
This weekend Mason has been demoted to fourth official for Manchester United's game with Brighton and Hove Albion, with Paul Tierney the referee at Old Trafford.
