Paul Merson suggests Oumar Niasse would have suited Newcastle

Monday 21st January 2019

Oumar Niasse has joined Cardiff City on loan from Everton.

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News on Saturday afternoon (2:07pm, Saturday, January 19, 2019) that Everton-owned Cardiff City striker Oumar Niasse would have been a good signing for Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

Niasse has recently joined Cardiff on loan from Premier League rivals Everton until the end of the season.

Merson said about Niasse on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News on Saturday afternoon (2:07pm, Saturday, January 19, 2019): “I think he is a good signing, and he would have suited Newcastle as well.”

Missed opportunity

Niasse has struggled to make a huge impact in the Premier League, but the 28-year-old striker has shown in flashes what he is capable of.

With Cardiff struggling to score goals at the moment, the Senegal international striker will be a good signing for Neil Warnock’s side.

Newcastle also need a proven goalscorer, and perhaps the Magpies should have made an approach for Niasse.

True, the Magpies won against Cardiff at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, but for Newcastle to stave off relegation to the Championship at the end of the season, they need a striker who can score goals regularly for them.
