Absolutely gutted to hear about this, felt as if I was punched in the stomach when I heard. Feel so sorry for Emiliano and his family and friends and also those of the pilots. In nearly 40 years as a Cardiff City fan I’ve never felt as sad as this. Feel for F.C. Nantes fans, officials and his ex teammates. Devastating!

Unless they made it safe to a secluded island then I feel tomorrow’s search at 1st light isn’t a rescue search it’s the start of the recovery mission

Such a sad day, unfortunately it seems that this transfer was doomed from the start

Really do hope we’re all proved wrong on this

Guernsey Police have confirmed they have called off the search for the passengers on board the aircraft that went missing over the English Channel on Monday night, including Cardiff striker Emiliano Sala.

They say chances of survival are "unfortunately slim".

"During the course of the 15-hour search, which used multiple air and sea assets from the Channel Islands, UK and France, a number of floating objects have been seen in the water," they tweeted.

"We have been unable to confirm whether any of these are from the missing aircraft.

"We have found no signs of those on board. If they did land on the water, the chances of survival are at this stage, unfortunately, slim.

"Search and rescue operations have been suspended as the sun has now set. The current plan is for it to resume at sunrise tomorrow. There will be no further updates tonight."

Absolutely gutted. Surprised that nothing has been recovered yet, especially after putting out a statement saying about objects in the water.

Thoughts to his family and friends. A sad sad day.

Hi Bluebirds, a Leicester City fan here, I just wanted to show some solidarity with you at this difficult time, when we visited the Cardiff City Stadium after our chairman had passed away you treated us with warmth and class and that will never be forgotten here. We are all praying for Sala although the situation looks more and more bleak. #thankyoucardiff #prayersforsala

Leicester fan here in peace.

Just wanted to pop in and offer my condolences. Lots of us thinking of you (the fans), the club and the Emiliano Sala's family at the moment.

The way you guys welcomed us – and took part in our sorrow – in our first game since our own tragedy in October will never be forgotten by those who were there (including me).

Blues together, in grief.

I registered on this forum today because sadly once again Bill Shankley's quote about the importance of football is proven wrong. I thought that the view from Wolves fans (MolineuxMix, I am a member on there although not with this username) might at least provide a little consolation in proving that when it come down to it most people are fundamentally decent at heart.

Obviously Sala had not been on your books long but the comments on here prove that you had already taken him to heart. Should the worst come to pass I hope that he and the pilot RIP.

Just cant get to grips with this news it’s honestly heart breaking, this club is everything to me and most us we wake up in the morning and go to sleep thinking about this club.

Sala was an eagier player wanting to help our team and took from us at such a young age
Very sad day for the club, fans and families of those in this tragedy

Burnley fan in peace. Football is again struck with a tragedy which transcends club loyalties but unites fans from all corners. It is hard to comprehend the malign fate that has taken the life of a young athlete, who was on the verge of a new chapter in his life and career. My heartfelt condolences to both Nantes and Cardiff, and I wish you all the very best for the season ahead. Regards and best wishes. Respect.
