Josh Maja of Sunderland

Cardiff City are set to make a £2million offer for Sunderland starlet Josh Maja, according to reports.

The highly-rated youngster is out of contract at the end of the season, sparking a scramble for his signature.

He has already scored 16 goals so far this campaign, and the Black Cats have been doing everything to retain his services.

But that looks unlikely, with the Stadium of Light side looking for at least a £4million fee.

Celtic and German clubs Stuggart, Cologne and Wolfsburg are also keen.

Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock is keen on adding to his ranks despite the signings of Emiliano Sala from Nantes and Oumar Niasse on loan from Everton.

Sunderland may be persuaded to do a deal in the knowledge that they could lose the talented youngster for nothing in the summer.

It is understood that Maja would like to stay at the League One club until the end of the season and pursue another challenge in then, but that could change should a bid arrive.

Crystal Palace are also monitoring the situation.
