Cheap flight offered to Sala by our club

Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:52 pm

Wether or not Cardiff City are legally obliged to pay Nantes the £15m for Sala is another issue. Doubtless it will get sorted in due course.

You have to say, leaving the transportation of the biggest signing in the Football Club's history to a junior member of the executive management team is utter folly.

This should have been the remit of the CEO or manager - and not have been given to a junior player liaison person. Unfortunately, the Club does not have a Director of Football - just a Chairman who is attempting to cover the role.

Would any other club in the Premier League offered a record signing a seat on a £82 economy Flyb flight? I think not.

There are specialist airline companies based out of Luton who would have supplied a private jet from Cardiff to Nantes return for around £8k - a small price to pay if you have just paid £15m for the cargo it was carrying.

My despair is based on two lost lives and the reputation Cardiff are projecting to the rest of the Football world.

I feel sorry for Club funder Vincent Tan. How does he feel about a catastrophic event that might have been avoided if fastidious and necessary common sense had been applied?

Why was an agent McKay involved in the transportation issue of a player once he had passed his medical and signed a contract?

Be interesting what everyone else thinks.

The whole thing has set Cardiff City FC back years.

Not sure why everybody thinks it’s the responsibility of the club to arrange his transport? He’d agreed to sign, gone back to his old club to say farewell. Do we arrange transport for the players to drive to the ground each Saturday?

One minute the fruit loops on here bang on about cost cutting.

2 things..1.reading that text ES probably had no idea how much or what carrier ..

2..What about his agent {i dont mean Mckay }. you would think an agents job is to accompany and look after the client, especially in a deal worth so much money....

oh...3..why always knocking the club..?

Re: Cheap flight offered to Sala by our club

whether it was £82 or not, Flybe travel all over Europe to Cardiff and they have an excellent safety record. Sala costing £15 million makes no difference they are a reputable airline that are suited good enough for everyone. The issue is Sale was flown by a crooked agent over dangerous conditions by a tinpot airline in a tinpot aeroplane. Our club is not at fault for this at all.
Shit stirring post in my opinion. :banghead:

Spot on, how much were we going to be paying him a week? How much was his agents getting in? If they wahted better than we offered pay for it themselves.

Which company is it that the OP works for where the staff travel is arranged by the CEO?

Seems a strange responsibility for one of the highest paid members of the company staff (players aside in this case).

Also, £82 was the cost of the flight from Paris to Cardiff on the night in question with an airline that carries thousands each day. The club did nothing wrong yet you insinuate that the cost of the flight implicates us in some way.

There was NO rush to get him back here as we had 7 days before the next game .....PLANNING & RESPECT .

Our players fly all the time. Are you saying the club should be arranging private jets for them? It would cost a fortune. We are not Real Madrid.

He was flying from Bristol to Nantes!

Do you think Emirates run a jumbo liner with luxury first class facilities on that route?!

The only commercial option is to fly one of those companies or to go to Paris on a larger airline.

Be with him on the flight back! What for? Sala was a grown man.
He was needed back for training. Not sure what respect has to do with it.

Well if that’s what was available what’s wrong with that.
Do we arrange to drive a player from any place in UK once they signed and decided to go back home?
In my opinion the club has no resposiblity to arrange the transport back.
If a player decides to go home to see friends then that’s their perogotive, we are talking about grown men here, not kids joining.

This poster keeps implying illegal activity on CCFC's part such as having the McKay twins play for the reserves, yet provides absolutely no substance as to how it's illegal.

I think this poster has some sort of hate for the club.

Re: Cheap flight offered to Sala by our club

Sat Mar 02, 2019 11:00 am

People are missing the point, Sala himself said he would sort it out as he wanted to stay in Nantes longer. The club respected his wishes as a grown adult to be able to do this. Unfortunately for him he was approached by mackay who you would think would be more careful with flight arr@ngements as his son was getting a sickening 10% of the deal. He’s really shot himself in the foot with his comments saying he is all about the money, we don’t look after you etc, then arranged a flight that would see young Sala killed. A flight the pilot wasn’t qualified for. There is the insurance claim.

Re: Cheap flight offered to Sala by our club

Sat Mar 02, 2019 11:03 am

Martin Robinson, chief executive of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, said it was concerned about the use of so-called grey charters, which are unlicensed flights and the use of foreign-registered planes for air taxi work, since the incident.
"UK air charter companies pay a lot of money to the government for air operator certificates, without which they can't run commercial air taxi operations," said Mr Robinson.
"They know they're being undercut by competitors who in some cases are not fully compliant with the law.
"It's the responsibility of the person who organised the flight to have a suitably qualified pilot at the controls and to ensure the pilot had sufficient flying experience for this kind of flight and for the weather conditions that may be encountered.
"Mr Sala would have had no knowledge of David Ibbotson's licence but the person organising it should have known about that.
"They've let this man down."

Yep they did

The agent arranged the flight on the cheap , so he could make more money and no doubt he would have billed the club 1000s.
His son in the televised interview looked terrified, they both have a lot to answer for.
I can't see VT leaving it rest we all know how he never leaves go of anything if he thinks he's been conned.

You're right and the statement from the AAIB that includes the one you placed above says a lot. All parties had a 'duty of care' to their clients and whilst City might have handled it a little better in hindsight, the player himself released them from any obligations when he declined the offer of a flight (no matter who it was with)

The other parties failed in their 'duty of care', as Agents McKay made arrangements knowingly 'to save money' (their levels of backside covering has been embarrassing and often against the fact) and Dave Henderson's group effectively employed an illegal (competent or not) substitute pilot because it was more important for him to be at a party than looking after business

The most telling quote was a simple one...

"It's the responsibility of the person who organised the flight to have a suitably qualified pilot at the controls and to ensure the pilot had sufficient flying experience for this kind of flight and for the weather conditions that may be encountered.

"Mr Sala would have had no knowledge of David Ibbotson's licence but the person organising it should have known about that."

You said (quote) "They've let this man down." and you are 100% correct

Re: Cheap flight offered to Sala by our club

Sat Mar 02, 2019 11:35 am

I don't see why a director of football would be arranging flights  it's a job for an admin or PA. To be honest I don't see why the club should have to arrange a personal flight at all, I'd have thought that would be down to his agent.

Do the club arrange all Manga's flights to France or others players flights back and forth.

At the end of the day it was the players decision to go home so id expect him or his agent to arrange it anyway.

And nothing wrong with a direct flight from Paris to Cardiff with Flybe. Not really many other options.
