Swansea City: 'We don't stand a chance of getting him now!'

Leeds United fans and football world react as Daniel James opens Wales account

Sunday 24th March 2019

Daniel James is just great, isn't he?

We know it. Swansea City fans know it - and Leeds United DEFINITELY know it...

Now, the whole world knows it.

The winger was handed his first-ever international start for Wales as they opened their Euro 2020 qualifier at home to Slovakia at the Cardiff City Stadium - and it's safe to say he made the most of it.

The 20-year-old nipped in to pinch the ball on the edge of the area following some marvelous work from Welsh Player of the Year David Brooks after just six minutes, before sending a rocket of a strike in to the back of Martin Dubravka's net.

It's just the latest episode in a scintillating season for the Swansea star, and will surely only increase his list of admirers.

James came to within a whisker of Leeds United on deadline day in January, and Marcelo Bielsa's side may well choose to make another approach in the summer.

However, Leeds fans are starting to wonder if they'll be able to cope with the competition for his signature, which will surely continue to grow following a sparkling performance for his country.

Taking to social media, one fan said: "No chance we get anywhere near him now", while another said: "Dislike Huw Jenkins more and more as time goes on".

However, not all Leeds fans are as pessimistic, with one tweeting: "Dan James is some player. Gonna be immense for us next season, while another claimed that the winger's current contract situation will play in their favour.

Whatever happens, the hype is only getting bigger, with many onlookers tipping James to be a Premier League player next season.

James is currently negotiating a new deal at Swansea at the moment, but given the number of outgoings at the Liberty Stadium in recent months, many believe the right offer could see the club tempted into a sale.
