Lets be fair South Wales has its fair share of "shitty cities"

Pembroke Dock
Milford Haven
Port Talbot
Aberavon
Newport
etc etc

but there are places such as

Wigan
St Helens
Most of London
Liverpool
most of the Midlands

in fact your better off starting athread from the opposite end of the spectrum i.e. best towns/cities in UK

It depends on how you are judging this. I live in Newport and agree it's pretty grim but there are far worse places in the UK. The East End of London is awful, as is Mosside in Manchester, Sparbrooke in Birmingham and Toxteth In Liverpool.

On the other side of the coin I remember parking up in Cockfosters for the Arsenal game and it was full of toffee nosed wankers.

Moss side etc are suburbs thou.

Cardiff has some dodgy suburbs, but overall its a decent place.

Indeed , Cardiff is sixth best city in the United Kingdom for shopping, according to a poll in November 2009, surpassing other cities such as Bristol, Leeds, Edinburgh and Newcastle upon Tyne.( since SD2 completion)

Oh right I did ask on what criteria this survey was being based so it seems the answer is shopping. :geek: I'll duck out here then as that's a bit naff for a football related forum

Fair play, Don't now how I missed Cumbernauld.

I don't count Grangemouth as a place up here - it should be boarded up and forgotten about lol

I live in Nottingham but am a student in Newcastle (final year journalism if you must know)

Ive lived in Nottingham for 7 years and I hate the place, its full of chavs, the accent and alot of the people are just vile and as you know crime is ridiculous, its a shit and expensive night out...Where'as I could easily see myself living in Newcastle for the rest of my life after travelling etc...

But there are plenty of dumps out there!

I always find ex-heavy industrial towns and current working ports are pretty shitty.

Dover and Holyhead are dire, Middlesboro and Stoke are awful. Liverpool is still a big working port and therefore suffers.

Although Cardiff WAS one of the biggest working ports at one point it is now far enough in it's past to make the City look pretty decent.

I quite like Bristol, it's dock area died many moons ago so also gains from redevelopment. They moved their ships to Avonmouth which really is a dive.
