Everything a dejected Neil Warnock said after Cardiff City's controversial defeat to Burnley -

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock was in a dejected mood after his side's controversial 2-0 defeat to Burnley.

Sunday 14th April 2019

NEIL WARNOCK:

What's your reaction to the penalty being overturned?

"It's how it goes isn't it. We didn't start the game very well, we were a bit apprehensive. But at half time we talked and I thought if we got the next goal we'd win the game.

"Three minutes in we get an opportunity and it's one of those things isn't it? I'd imagine ex referees will say it's not a penalty but Graeme Sounness would probably say it's a penalty.

"It's a difficult one. He gave it, the linesman was adamant and the fourth official told me the referee hadn't seen it and yet another linesman from 75 yards away had seen it and said it's hit his head first and then hit his hands... apparently it's not a penalty - so I hope that answers your question."

How frustrating is it?

"Well I wish our lads surrounded the referee a bit like Burnley. But Mike Dean is one of the best there is, so you've got to accept what he says. I don't want another FA charge - I've got three. I don't want to have a hotel down there, do I?"

What did you say to the referee?

"I went to see him, but that should stay between us really. It's annoying that somebody from 75 yards away can tell someone else that it came off his head. I find that amazing that the other linesman was instrumental in reversing it - the linesman that couldn't see a toe poke go out in the first half.

"I find it very strange, but the way things are going we keep getting kicked in the teeth but I can't fault the lads one way or the other.

"Second half we stepped it up and I thought we were super. They really tried hard, the fans were brilliant and now we've got to, once again, overcome disappointments, decisions etc and get ready for Brighton.

"I bet Brighton are rubbing their hands that they get to play us on Tuesday."

Bournemouth did you a favour by beating Brighton?

"I know. I was hoping Bournemouth's players would listen to my comments!"

You're a lot calmer than after the Chelsea game...

"I'm just trying not to get fined. I've been advised. I'm absolutely distraught underneath. I just can't understand how someone 70 yards away can influence the two officials. Darren Cann is a top linesman, so I can't tell you any more."

Gunnarsson went down too, what did you think of that one?

"We feel that was the worst of the lot, the best penalty shout. Mike Dean said Gunnarsson made a meal of it but when you watch it tonight you'll see Taylor came across and catches him right on his ankle bone. It's a penalty, so we're disappointed with that too.... other than that it's been a very good game."

Can you use the disappointment to drive you on?

"I haven't got a clue. We've been saying that for months now so I honestly don't know how we'll turn up for Tuesday. I thought second half today we could have won the game. I was feeling quite confident and on another day we might have done.

"But it's our own fault. We had opportunities and missed them. Decisions haven't gone our way but they haven't gone for us much all season. I don't think it's evening out at the minute so I think in the next five games we're going to be inundated with good luck... I bet Liverpool are quaking in their shoes thinking about that.

"I did say we'll have to win three and draw one, but nobody realised I meant Liverpool as one of my three. I've always done well against Liverpool."

It's only two points if you beat Brighton?

"It is but from their point of view it's probably all over if they beat us. It depends on the night and if things go for us. Hopefully we'll have a bit more luck than we've had lately and that we're ready for it. Burnley have earned their luck and Sean's done a fantastic job.

"We've got to look at them. They went down the first year he was here, they rebuilt the club back up and now they're doing really well. We don't want to go down but they're a lesson we've got to learn."

Mike Dean said Gunnarsson "made a meal of it".

What a f*cking stupid thing to say. It's a foul whether you stay on your feet or do a triple salko with two back flips and land on your arse you knob.

Sheer incompetence by one of our "top" officials.

And those who say that Ashley Barnes wasn't "interfering" with Etheridge for their first goal should look at it again - he clearly makes a movement towards the ball after Wood heads it and then leaves it when he realises that it's going in.

Never mind - it's only Cardiff.

No doubt Marriner has received the company memo for Tuesday night.

Every time Salah, zaha, Rashford etc goes down they make a meal out of it. It's not given otherwise. If it was any of the aforementioned names, that penalty is given. Every time! That is what is wrong with this league. They don't referee the football, they referee the names.
