Liam Rosenior sacked by Hull after missing out on Championship play-offs by 3pts

When Liam Rosenior took over at Hull, they were 21st in the Championship.

19 months later, they’ve finished 7th and failed the play-offs on the final day.

They’ve spent a lot of money and would have expected top six.

But they gave him a new contract a few months ago so this does seem a bit odd because of that.

There was talk of that a while ago if it didn’t work out with Rosenior, don’t know how true it was. Could just be people putting two and two together and getting five.

Possibly something to keep an eye on though.

To be fair to Rosenior, he got them playing some nice attacking football. They tore us a new one at the CCS recently.

A young manager who did a good job at Hull and plays good football. Will want to prove Hull owners wrong. I would go for him.

Good manager

Doubt he would come to us. Not with the lack of backing that our managers get.

yes you are correct Worcester

there were noises doing the rounds that 2 UK clubs were monitoring the cardiff city situation closely about a month ago .Hull being one of those clubs

think we're in for a championship merry go round this summer across the board !

Not surprising given volatility of Turkish owners! But if we had their players think bulut be gone if didn't get top 6 ..... musnt forget average time for manager in championship b 4 sack is 9mnths! :o

If the target given to him was playoffs... He failed. Deserved sacking.

Also, when you look at how much theyve spent. Nearly 12m and 2nd most net spend in the league.

I'd have expected better too.

Hull are on the slippery slope

Overspent on transfers and massively on wages with a trigger happy owner

We all know how this will end!!

Hull City head coach Liam Rosenior has been sacked after failing to guide his side into the Championship play-offs.

Rosenior, who had agreed a three-year deal in December, steered the Tigers to seventh place in the Championship this season – their first top-half finish since 2016.

Hull’s 1-0 defeat by Plymouth on Saturday meant they missed out on the play-offs by just three points.

But Rosenior’s efforts were enough to make him one of three nominees for the Championship manager of the season award, won by Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna.

Rosenior, 39, who was in charge for 18 months, spent five years as a Hull player and helped them to gain promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

He returned to the MKM Stadium to succeed Shota Arveladze in December 2022, having previously worked as assistant under both Phillip Cocu and Wayne Rooney at Derby.

'Our visions for the future are not aligned' -

Hull owner and chairman Acun Ilicali said in a statement, external: “This has been the most difficult decision I have had to make as chairman of this wonderful football club.

“No matter how trying the circumstance, I have to remove personal sentiment from these moments and ensure the long-term vision of the club is at the centre of my thinking.

“Since Liam’s arrival, we have enjoyed an open working relationship and progress has undoubtedly been made over the course of his tenure. I thank him for all his work.

“However, it has become evident that our visions for the future are not aligned and I feel that now is the time to make a change.

“I know what this club can achieve, and we will not stop in the pursuit of that. We now have many highly talented players at our disposal and we will continue to invest and improve our playing personnel to give this club and its fans the success they deserve.”

Absolutely crazy but I suppose if he was given a target but failed to reach it then bye bye.
Wonder how the old their books with FFP and sustainable rules are looking?

Rosenior is well respected and came within a whisker of getting his remit done. He wont be out of work for long.

A bit of perspective for me when having a look: we matched Hull's number of wins with 19. 8 Points off them. Considering the differences in investments (transfer and loan fees paid out), I was quite shocked at that.

Perhaps Liam Rosenior isn't quite ready for a championship promotion bid and their owner has realised that.

What's he achieved?

Sounds good on sky
Assistant manager to the serial failure Rooney
A few games, the interim manager

Then bang here is a shedload of money, get me to the promised land.

These chairmen don't half get the bug when they catch it.

Malky had a three year plan until Tan tasted the big time and wanted it a season earlier.

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali sacked Liam Rosenior because he didn't like style of football -

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has said he wasn't excited enough by Liam Rosenior's brand of football as he opened up on the manager's departure

Liam Rosenior was sacked by Hull City because he wasn’t attacking enough.

Rosenior was surprisingly axed by owner Acun Ilicali despite a strong season which saw the Tigers agonisingly miss out on a place in the Championship play-offs. Owner Acun Ilicali, who only handed Rosenior a new long-term contract in December, has opened up about the differences which emerged between the pair over the second half of the season and ultimately led to a change.

Speaking to talkSPORT this morning (Wednesday), Ilicali revealed he wanted to a more attack-minded style of play. He said: “When you have a difference of thinking from the coach’s side and the ownership and the football mind of the team, it is not good for the team to go for a long-term journey.

Well that's Bulut ruled out.
