Scargill always said that the Tories were going to close 77 pits (some of them still in a profitable state). This Thatcher did with the help of unlawful policing. Ask some of our fans in the Rhondda about this.

The Tories were always looking to take on a large trade union to smash the power of the working man. In their private pre-election startegy document, I believe called, 'Apropos to Civil War,' it was felt that that conflict would be with the iron and steel unions. Sadly it was coal miners who felt the brunt of Thatcher.
