Us v the egg

Fri Feb 04, 2011 3:04 pm

After reading the posts on here over the last few days about the fans getting unfair sentences for the trouble at Chelsea, it got me thinking, tonight there will be easily in excess of 100,000 eggs fans in Cardiff, 74000 at the game and countless more watching in pubs/clubs around town. When it kicks off how much fuss do think will be kicked up? How much air time on BBC news will it get i can tell you none!!

Having seen the trouble at egg games in the past nothing ever gets reported and very few people get arrested for it, normally just a ticking off by the old bill. Us football fans are unfairly pursued and over policed at every opportunity in 7 weeks time Wales play England in the football again at the millenium stadium and again there will be probably 100,000 or so it town , but on that day look at how many cameras, news reporters etc will be looking for all the trouble so they can flood the news with 'football fans on the rampage'. It really winds me up that 2 sports are policed totally differently when at the egg alcohol is readily available all through the game and there are no restrictions on travel, yet at football we can't even enjoy a pint during the game, we have redezvous points to collect tickets and are escorted in by the old bill! And I quote for 'our safety' which this in turn leads to more trouble as fans end up get annoyed at the police with their over enthusiastic approach.

Yes I know in some cases there are a minority of fans who do want to cause trouble and I'm not naive enough to believe that all football fans are angels but it really annoys me, to the point that I question sometimes going to watch football, that rugby fans especially are used as an example of well behaved fans when 9 times out of 10 there is the same level if not more trouble at an egg international as there is at football.

I think the trouble these days Billyako is that the old skool still believe there is this phrase that exists...

'Rugby is a thug's game played by gentlemen and football is a gentleman's game played by thugs'.

Sadly, I can assure you, there are thugs in both nowadays but the older generations and those in power still old the belief that this phrase is true. The fact that rugby is the 'national sport' here means that the powers that be are going to be reluctant to admit there is a problem regarding violence and rugby. Imagine the shame it would bring the sport!

I don't condone violence in either sport but I avoid town on rugby nights now because of the amount of cunts about.

It's always been like that a few years ago a few friends of mine got in a fight down chippy lane on an egg game night all arrested and realesed without charge, a few months later when we played England in the football I was drinking with a few of the boys one of whom was English and we had a little play fight amongst ourselves and all 7 of us were arrested, had to go to court as the cps were pressing charges not us ( we were all mates) it was only when, thankfully, common sense took over that we were all let off. We were facing banning orders from football for messing round in st marys street, tonight I'm going to town for a mates birthday so will see it all first hand and it'll wind me up. National sport my arse!! :? :?

70% of the people in the ground tonight will be there for the occasion. The rest will actually support other Rugby Union/league clubs. Wheras with a football international, over 70% attending would support thier local football club. National sport, or national event?

P.S, most of the Rugby barstoods that are out in town on an international day are far more, ignorant, drunken and thuggish than the majority of football fans out there.
