After God had finished the rattlesnake, the toad, and the vampire, he had some awful substance left with which he made a scab.

A scab is a two-legged animal with a corkscrew soul, a water brain, a combination backbone of jelly and glue.

Where others have hearts, he carries a tumour of rotten principles.

When a scab comes down the street, men turn their backs and angels weep in heaven, and the devil shuts the gates of hell to keep him out.

No man has a right to scab so long as there is a pool of water to drown his carcass in, or a rope long enough to hang his body with.

Judas was a gentleman compared with a scab. For betraying his master, he had character enough to hang himself. A scab has not.

Esau sold his birthright for a mess of pottage.

Judas sold his Saviour for thirty pieces of silver.

Benedict Arnold sold his country for a promise of a commision in the british army.

The scab sells his birthright, country, his wife, his children and his fellowmen for an unfulfilled promise from his employer.

Esau was a traitor to himself; Judas was a traitor to his God; Benedict Arnold was a traitor to his country.

A scab is a traitor to his God, his country, his family and his class.

A real man never becomes a strike breaker.

For Pete's sake, what a bunch of brave little class warriors you all are.

If you're a real man you stand up for your beliefs no matter what others say. South Wales and Nottinghamshire decided not to strike. South Wales allowed itself to be intimidated, Nottinghamshire did not. The strike was meant to allow Arthur to strut around, pretending he was a working class hero. South Wales sacrificed its pits for Yorkshire.

Did Arthur call a strike when Welsh pits were being shut down? Did Yorkshire risk its jobs for your sake?

Grow up.

Now now, if you go saying things like that you have to get a real reply to what reaaly happened. We had a conference decision which had a national ballot pending that if any pit was threatened with closure, the national executive could call us out on strike.
Nottinghamshire miners hid behind the ballot, and because they did not take an interest in the union, they would not have known what had gone on during the lead up to the strike!

Bollux. The ruling class paymasters policy is to divide and conquer, it's about which side are you on. The miners of south wales voted not to strike but collectively agreed not to cross picket lines and were solid in all but a few pits. The scabs of Nottingham took the shithouse route, and their reward ??, Thatcher had their pits shut too. The workingmans only weapon is unity, the miners fight was a righteous one, it's a pity other members of the working class didn't back them because if you haven't noticed, all that's left in our once industrial heartland is few jobs and a lot of despair.

The law said that a ballot was needed. Scargill was scared by what would happen and daren't hold one. The strike was illegal. Why wasn't there a ballot?

If the workingman's only weapon is unity then there should have been a ballot to ensure unity.

The government are considering spending £3million on a state funeral for Margaret Thatcher when she dies.

For £3million they could buy everyone in Wales a shovel, and we'll dig a hole deep enough to deliver her to Satan ourselves.

Why, because thatcher and her cronies said so ??. The workingman should have the right to withdraw his labour when he feels his livelihood is threatened, the ballot laws were not imposed on us for our benefit, they were put there for the tories benefit. The fact is the vast majority of the miners felt a strike was justified, ballot or not. What we witnessed in 1984 was very much a class war, an us and them scenario instigated by the tories as an act of revenge on trade unions, especially the NUM, for the unions part in the downfall of the edward heath goverment,.

Strike ballots should be for the benefit of everyone. What are you going to do if nursing staff go on strike? Die on the streets to show your support for their right to withdraw their labour? What are you going to do when power stations close down in mid winter because the cleaners go on strike and picket the other workers out? Freeze to death in a socialist utopia.

A lot of Britain's industry was screwed up because of bad labour relations. People need to work together to make sure that there are jobs rather than making stupid and futile gestures.

Stupid and futile gestures ??. Do you think we should all just plod along when we get treated like shite. Do you deny a person the right to withdraw their labour at any time. Jeez I thought slavery had been abolished. Back to the main topic, understand this, it was a fight picked by your beloved thatcher, not the NUM, so go and point your finger and castigate them, for they were the cause of the dispute in an act of spiteful revenge for the collapse of ted heaths goverment, history will show that the miners were justified in their actions.

I can assure you all but two men in our pit were pro strike so less of the snide remarks pal, unless of course you would like to say them to my face next tuesday before the Leicester game ? I'll show you how scared I am , pub carpark of your choice, you up for it ?

Stupid and futile gestures ??

Yes

Do you think we should all just plod along when we get treated like shite.

Sometimes yes (it's being grown up), sometimes you need to try to sort things out, sometimes you just move on

Do you deny a person the right to withdraw their labour at any time.

They are free to resign if they want to but most strikes are just stupid so I wouldn't support them

Jeez I thought slavery had been abolished.

In this country, yes, but not being able to strike does not mean that you are a slave

Back to the main topic, understand this, it was a fight picked by your beloved thatcher, not the NUM, so go and point your finger and castigate them,

She's not my beloved Thatcher and I never voted for her party. However, with the benefit of hindsight she took some necessary actions that I was against at the time. I was wrong. The miner's strike was a dispute between the NCB and the miners and I think that the way the strike was handled destroyed the industry more quickly than would otherwise have been the case.

for they were the cause of the dispute in an act of spiteful revenge for the collapse of ted heaths goverment, history will show that the miners were justified in their actions.

It might have been spiteful, it might not. The elected Government was not happy with the agreement that had been reached more than a decade before and so it prepared itself for future action.

I doubt it but they were probably scared to take a stand.

I'll treat your invitation to a fight with the contempt it deserves.

Why wasn't a national ballot held?

Scared to take a stand ? you're at it again pal making snide incorrect assumptions, you don't even know these men. Look ,if you want to talk down to someone, make snide comments, at least be man enough to do it face to face , I think we've established who the keyboard warrior is here ,don't you ?

You're right, I don't know these men. But I don't believe that only two were really against the strike, especially as South Wales as a whole had voted not to strike. When I hear that in some dictatorship 99.9% of the population have voted for the ruling party I don't believe it because you never get that kind of majority on a free vote.

As for the snide comments look no further than the title Ohhhhhh scabby scabby.., I'm just making the point that many people who lived through the strike didn't support it then and don't now.

The whole idea of the internet is that you don't have to bother about geographical limitations. You can send messages to someone in Albania, Alaska or Australia just as easily as you can to someone in Aberdare. I don't gain anything by speaking face to face rather than through web, I can say things just as clearly from here.

And I'm not using the computer to boast how hard I am. I'm not. If we had a fight then you'd probably win. But if you have to use force to get your own way it means you can't deal with the argument.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. If you're still there have a good night yourself.

The man may not have agreeable opinions on the miners' strikes, but he makes an inarguable point there.

Re: Ohhhhhh scabby scabby..

Doesn't this discussion belong to a bygone era? A time when the system of Communism in USSR, so currupt that the vast majority of the people were in poverty, was being held up as an idyllic state by Arthur Scargill and his comrades.

Arthur Scargill and his fellow communist Mick McGahey were responsible for the closure of the mines, Do you seriously think that without illegal, protectionist legislation, British mines could have been economically viable when faced with the competition provided by coal produced in other parts of the world? In particular uneconomic pits in Scotland and Wales were doomed - only the productive Notts and South Yorkshire coalfields were producing coal of the right quality at the right price.

Get over it - yes the miner's strike (led by Scargill) hastened the demise of the coal industry, but said demise was inevitable!

I can assure you that the utter contempt being exhibited on this board does no justice to you, your club or Wales and is deemed laughable by those at whom it is aimed.
