CHRIS Kirkland's loan move to Cardiff City is off.

The former England goalkeeper was due to sign for the Bluebirds until the end of this season, but Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez said: "The deal won't be going ahead. Kirkland is staying at Wigan."

Martinez would not reveal why the loan transfer has been called off, but it is thought Kirkland is suffering from a virus.

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones will hope Tom Heaton is fit to face Ipswich Town at home on Saturday. Heaton has been suffering from a groin strain.

David Marshall has ligament damage in an elbow is is due for an operation, while third choice Jordan Santiago has a broken finger.

In the article above, Martinez failed to give the reasons. I wonder what actually caused the deal to fail ?
