Leon has made massive progress over the last month. In my last update I mentioned that he had gone on loan to Cinderford Town to get match fit. His form was so impressive that Bath City recalled him and he was on the bench for them before he went to Tenerife on a boxers training camp run by Nicky Cook. During that week he worked out 3 times a day, 12k run in the morning, gym and swim in the afternoon followed by boxing in the evening. He was also on a strict diet and as a result he dropped almost a stone in a week. He still has a bit of weight to shift, and that probably wont all go until he has completed a full pre-season, his first in 8 years, but he is already feeling the benefits of the loss of weight.
The medical team at Cardiff City Football Club were also good enough to allow Leon to visit the Vale recently so that he could have some work done on his legs. Leon was extremely grateful for their help and was blown away by the facilities that the club now boasts. He couldnt believe just how different it was from when he was a player with the club and every credit should be given to them for continuing to support Leon.
Since his return from Tenerife Bath City wanted Leon to return but as they feel he is not quite fit enough to start a game at that level he was going to be used as an impact player. After discussing the situation with Adie Britton, the manager, (who has been brilliant with Leon) it was decided that perhaps Leon would benefit from a few more full matches at Cinderford Town. As a result Leon played for them on Saturday and put in another man of the match performance!
http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/cinderfor ... 70131.htmlWith just 3 months to go until pre-season Leon is now on a strict diet and fitness regime to give him every possible chance of a successful comeback. He hopes to complete a full pre-season at Bristol Rovers and that once fully fit he can resume a career that once promised so much. As always, the odds are stacked against him but he has really given it everything!
