" DAVE JONES - "WE CAN WIN ALL 5 GAMES!" "

Fri Apr 15, 2011 2:08 pm

CARDIFF City manager Dave Jones challenged his in-form stars to win their final five games to seal their Premier League dream.

Before tomorrow’s game against Portsmouth, Jones said: “Winning all five games is a tall order but everybody goes on good runs and it can be done.

“I would rather be where we are than chasing.

“It's hard to chase, so this is a good position to be in. It's in our hands. We must stay strong where other didn't and we didn't a few months ago.

“Wherever we go we try and win. We have good players, great attitude, fantastic camaraderie. That's been here for years, not just this season.”

Jones was also keen to eulogise about his goal scoring captain Craig Bellamy and his tight fisted defence after this week’s 2-0 win at Sheffield United.

The manager said: “Craig Bellamy leads from the front.

“He has been influential around the place, but it's not about one person.

“Craig leads by example. Kevin McNaughton and Dekel Keinan, they lead by example. It’s not a one-man team.

“Bellamy can't do it on his own and he knows that.

“At Sheffield he showed he is up for it - and so is everybody else.

“Craig hasn’t won a great deal in his career. He has played at the highest level, but that doesn't count for anything.

“You can play at highest level and be relegated every year and move clubs.

“I am not saying that has not happened to Craig, but what it is doing is that he has an experience of being a very very good player. That’s what he's got. “

Jones admitted that his team came back from an extended stay in South Yorkshire with a few niggles, but he is hoping to have keeper Tom Heaton in his team to face Pompey and stars Michael Chopra and Mark Hudson back well before the season’s end.

He said: “We came back from Sheffield with quite a few niggles and the last two days have been about recovery.

“Some players have had injections. There are so many in treatment room, seeing specialists and having scans.

“Chopra and Hudson are a few weeks away but we are trying to push them as quick as we can.”

Finally Jones praised the Cardiff City fans and spoke of his hope for sell-outs tomorrow and in the Bluebirds’ remaining home games.

We win the remaining 5 games. That will make it 8 on the trot. That would even impress me.
