Glamorgan vs Essex

On day 1 it was an overcast day with a very green pitch, perfect conditions to bowl. Essex won the toss and put glamorgan into bat.

Essex bowled Glamorgan out for 282 on day 1, with batsmen getting in, then getting out without getting big scores. The scorecard is as follows

Gareth Rees - 8
Alviro Petersen - 21
Will Bragg - 55
Mike Powell - 36
Ben Wright - 33
Mark Wallace - 1
James Harris - 53
Graham Wagg - 36
Dean Cosker - 17
Huw Waters - 10
Adam Shantry - 2

All out - 282

Even though it was a reasonably good total in very bowler friendly conditions, the pitch did get easier to bat on as the day went on but the batsmen failed to capitalize.

Before day one ended. Glamorgan had 11 overs left in the day to bowl at Essex, and they restricted them to 13/1.
With young england prospect James Harris getting the early breakthrough to get rid of dangerman Alistar Cook for 5

Glamorgan ended up bowling out Essex for 258. Having a first innings lead of 24 runs going into the second innings.

Essex two dangermen were England boys Alistar Cook and Ravi Bopara for 5 and 61
With Harris removing Cook lbw for 5, and Dean Cosker removing Bopara c&b for 61

The Glamorgan bowling figures for Essex 1st innings are

-------------------O----M---R----W
James Harris - 22.3 - 5 - 68 - 4
Adam Shantry - 15 - 3 - 53 - 0
Graham Wagg - 18 - 4 - 64 - 0
Huw Waters - 6 - 2 - 16 - 2
Dean Cosker - 21 - 6 - 35 - 4
Alviro Petersen - 2 - 0 - 9 - 0

Unfortuantly Huw Waters, who bowled a tidy spell and removed Goodleman and Night watchmen Masters early struck a blow to the back and was unable to bowl for the rest of the game. Young star James Harris continues to knock on the door with 4 wickets for 68, bowling at an ecomany rate of just over 3 runs an over, which is very impressive. Shantry and Wagg was unable to get in the wickets but Glamorgan spinner Dean Cosker took 4 wickets and bowled very ecomicanly impressed with the ball as per usual.

Glamorgan's 2nd innings ended up with them scoring 335 runs setting Essex 360 to win
Again alot of Glamorgan's Batsmen got in and failed to get a big score

Gareth Rees - 54
Alviro Petersen - 14
Adam Shantry (Night watchmen) - 14
Will Bragg - 48
Mike Powell - 33
Ben Wright - 16
Mark Wallace - 82
James Harris - 0
Graham Wagg - 19
Dean Cosker - 8
Huw Waters - 13

Mark Wallace was playing freely, maybe if the batsmen had stayed around him, he wouldnt have played a rash shot to get out on 82. The middle order got in and got out. Rees should have set his sights more towards a 100. Whilst Bragg and Powell really should have got 50's.

Glamorgan set Essex 360 to win.
You'd have to favour Glamorgan at this stage, bowling on a day 4 pitch.

James Harris set Essex to 0/1 trapping Goddleman lbw for 0.
But unfortuanly Essex ended up winning the game finishing up on 360/4

The bowling figures were

----------------------O---M---R---W
James Harris ---- 23-- 4 -- 88-- 1
Adam Shantry --13.5--3---62----1
Dean Cosker ----40 --10---108--2
Graham Wagg --21--2----83----0
Alviro Petersen - 3--1--7--0

Out of the 2 innings.. Cosker had the most wickets with 6, Harris with 5, Waters with 2, Shantry with 1 and Wagg and Petersen with 0.

The top run scorer out of the two innings for Glamorgan was

Bragg with 113 runs
Wallace with 83 runs
Powell with 69 runs
Rees with 62 runs
Wagg with 55 runs
Harris with 53 runs
Wright with 49 runs
Petersen with 38 runs
Cosker with 25 runs
Waters with 23 runs
Shantry with 16 runs

James Harris is one for the future. He is one to look out for, i really think he has what it takes to be in the England side in the next 18 months.
He is also on the England radar as he spent the winter in the carribbean with the England lions :ayatollah:

Tom Maynard who left Glamorgan for Surrey is also another one, (I know he aint with Glamorgan anymore) but hes welsh and is a very talented Cricketer. Who has scored his maiden first class hundered against Glamorgan last week, and was also left stranded on 98 not out against Middlesex a couple of days ago.
