THE DRINKING ALLEGATIONS HAVE NOW BEEN ADDRESSED INTERNALLY

Cardiff City issue statement after player booze allegations
By Jon Doel
May 4 2011
Cardiff City boss Dave Jones

CARDIFF CITY tonight issued a statement following allegations players were out drinking into the early hours just two days before the shocking 3-0 defeat against Middlesbrough.

A London newspaper today alleged a group of Bluebirds stars were out in Cardiff City centre following a supporters' player of the year function on Friday night.

Reports in the Daily Mail suggested boss Dave Jones was furious with his players after hearing of the night out, which allegedly continued into Saturday morning.

The reports claim players were told they could attend the fans' event on condition they did not drink or stay out late.

Cardiff's automatic promotion hopes were left in tatters on Monday night against Boro, as they found themselves 3-0 down inside 21 minutes.

And a club spokesman tonight told WalesOnline: “Cardiff City Football Club are aware of the allegations concerning socialising by a small minority of players in the days leading up to the Middlesbrough league fixture.

“We would like to make it known that the allegations have been addressed internally and that the full focus of Club staff and the whole squad is now on our final league game of the season at Burnley on Saturday.”

The Bluebirds now travel to Burnley on Saturday knowing they will probably need a win to ensure they finish third in the table above rivals Swansea City.

Swansea take on relegated Sheffield United at the Liberty Stadium, with the team finishing in third place set to benefit from any QPR points deduction and possibly claim a place in the Premier League.

To be fair the amount of press this story has got it is difficult not to admit its true. They have just played it down as much as possible.

These players have let the club down and us ... the fans. For lots of us this is our life !!!!! The players not in the squad on match day should sit with the real fans to see what it means to pull on the shirt

I my self dont give a FK , about this internal shit ! , I have always thought that Jay was a real Cardiff player and did care about the Club and Fans, WHAT A SILLY FK I WAS ! I hope he goes in the summer and it was only Tuesday I was talking to him down the Vale. If I had known then what I know now I would have still have spoke to him , but in a way that would have left him with unable to play on Saturday cos he would have had a ear drum bashing from me.
I would have also to him in these very words, JAY YOU CAN FK OFF TO ANY CLUB YOU WANT , WE WANT A PRO , NOT A PRICK!
GOD DAM, IM SO FKING MAD THAT THEY LET OUR CARDIFF DOWN , JUST FOR A NIGHT OUT!

addressed internally my fat f*cking arse,

that's it, im just a factory worker if I went into work drunk I'd be out the door to sober up and on a disciplinary when I came back in the next day, and my state would only affect me not thousands who pay a fortune each week.
I now have no respect for a majority of this current team,
my club is dead,
and until all these parasites are removed from it, I cant see it moving forward. :(

we also need someone new at the helm, david jones you have lost the respect of the players and control of them.

Re: CARDIFF CITY ISSUE A STATEMENT ABOUT PLAYERS BOOZING

If last Monday DJ dropped the players that were out the night before, and brought back some of the fringe players, who has not played for a while and told us it was for disciplinary reason and was an internal matter for the club, and we lost to Boro, we would be having a go at Jones for not picking his best team, and throwing away the best chance of playing top flight football for 40 years, he his dammed if he does and dammed if he don't.

I wonder has it upset the camp for those who were not there, I am sure some players must be upset about this.

Maybe he should drop them for the Burnley game!!!!!

I'm surprised this all hasn't come out earlier ( it probably has but after Mondays result I haven't been on here much ), chopra was tweeting about some bird and she was tweeting to Jay. It was obvious they were out as it was the early hours. I don't understand why we would hold the player of the year doo at such an important stage of the season. I know it always happens before the end of the season but it has already been showed this season that some of our players cannot be trusted so it's no surprise really. :ayatollah:

The players have insulted TG ,VT ,Cardiff City AFC and us the fans.

They Should stay off the booze between now and the end of the season.
Jones should buy a breathalyser.
Any player failing the test should not play another game for the club
Against Boro they took the piss out of the fans big time and perhaps more importantly Cardiff City AFC.

So this has been dealt with internally, that fills me full of confidence that this will never happen again. Bollocks some of these players have had more warnings than a cat has lives.

Once you issue a final warning you should bloody well mean it otherwise you will lose the respect of the decent players and in my opinion this has happened.

good idea only takes 30 seconds to test someone.
if found over the legal limit, report them to the police for driving,
seems harsh but telling them not to go out drinking dont work, thats as plain to see as the nose on my face.
also dock them a weeks wages, and make them train extra sessions

I walked into work this morning and an independent company were doing random drink and drugs tests. this happens about every 2 months. If found over the limit u would be asked if you drive in to work. people have already been sacked down there. Our players have had enough warnings. It is disgusting

They're a disgrace, do not deserve to wear a city shirt ever again. Think of the amounts of money the loyal fans pay to watch them week in, week out.. then compare it to the astronomic wages some of these players are paid. If we do fail to make the premier league this season, I hope there's a mass culling of players during the summer!

Re: CARDIFF CITY ISSUE A STATEMENT ABOUT PLAYERS BOOZING

I think we should all ring the club and register our disgust regarding this fiasco. They should be made aware of our feelings, our hurt, that we have been let down by the clubs employees (manager & offending players).

This situation could very well harm us commercially too as companies wont want to be associated with a club that is unable to control its own image.

Ironic isn't it that on one hand the club wins a family friendly award yet some of the players seem to be totally out of control and give the finger to club discipline and rules.

I think people are being a little naive, it's been happening all season rightly or wrongly.... Wrongly IMO.

I don't know who was out but I see people have a go at Jay who worked harder than most games Monday with little luck yes but his work effort was clear.

I hope the player of the year awards ain't cancelled next year after this and it annoys me they couldn't stay 30mins for the fans but could get pissed :(

I agree, i would also suggest that it's been going on for the last six seasons aswell. "the players looked tired", "bad day at the office", so on ,so on. As fans, weve been mugged for the last six seasons! :old:

Besides not giving a f#ck about their fans and OUR club, I also cannot believe they would give such a 2 finger salute to Dave Jones, Terry Burton, TG, VT & everybody else who has worked their arse off to get to the cusp of promotion.

I wonder if half of those out on the lash have new deals lined up elsewhere & the other half know they wont be getting a contract if we go up

Either way an apology from ALL of those involved is the minimum they could do if they had a shred of decency about them

Bunch of C U Next Tuesdays the lot of em

Rant over & back to work (and yes I would also get fired for turning up to work half pissed)

Bluebirds’ probe into players ‘socialising’ before Boro loss
by Paul Abbandonato, Western Mail
May 5 2011

CARDIFF CITY have launched an internal probe into claims some of their players were out drinking in the early hours ahead of their Middlesbrough defeat, but insisted their focus was fully on Saturday’s must-win clash with Burnley.

Bluebirds’ boss Dave Jones has taken the action after reports surfaced he had ripped into his players for socialising ahead of the pivotal Boro game.

Cardiff, chasing the Premier League dream, inexplicably crashed 3-0 at home to Tony Mowbray’s Championship also-rans and Jones admitted he was at a loss to explain away the defeat.

The Cardiff manager and club hierarchy are believed to have spoken to certain players about the reports which surfaced yesterday.

After conducting an inquiry into the matter, the club issued an official response last night in the form of a two-sentence statement.

It read: “Cardiff City Football Club are aware of the allegations concerning socialising by a small minority of players in the days leading up to the Middlesbrough league fixture.

“We would like to make it known that the allegations have been addressed internally and that the full focus of club staff and the whole squad is on our final league game of the season at Burnley on Saturday.”

Jones was perplexed by the shock nature of the collapse against Middlesbrough, played out in front of an expectant crowd approaching 25,000.

The damaging defeat cost Cardiff automatic promotion, rivals Norwich grabbing the second spot behind champions Queens Park Rangers by beating Portsmouth 1-0 that night.

Cardiff could yet get a reprieve if QPR are docked sufficient points at their FA hearing into the signing of Argentinean Alejandro Faurlin.

But the reports which have surfaced of players socialising ahead of Cardiff’s biggest game of the year has shocked fans.

Bluebirds’ legend Nathan Blake said: “Managers can’t keep players under lock and key.

“They have everything done for them, but there comes a point when you have to make a decision on your own as an adult.

“If it is true, the players have let themselves down and the Cardiff supporters down.”
