Mortgaged Players - A question

It has been said on here that Bothroyd, amongst others, were mortgaged by Ray Ransom.

What I'm wondering is, what happens when the contract expires of a player who's mortgaged? As in Jay Bothroyd today

I dont think its over any particular players, just that they get a % of any fee received until its paid. So in Jays case we get nothing so they cant take anything. That was my understanding anyway, maybe carl will know more

I thought so Luke. I was just wondering what is the appeal for this kind of arrangement from Ranson's position. I mean, there's always a chance that the club, or player, let the contract run down.

I think we are also paying interest on the loan as well, im sure its an insane about of interest as well.
