Bluebirds target Mackay in managerial tug-of-war

Jun 5 2011 by Alan Nixon, The People
Mackay

MALKY MACKAY is at the heart of a managerial tug-of-war, with Cardiff shortlisting him as their next boss.

The Watford chief also has big admirers at Nottingham Forest, who could make their move if fellow Scot Billy Davies gets the sack.

The Bluebirds are searching for Dave Jones’ successor and are also looking at out-of-work Chris Hughton, who won the Championship with Newcastle.

Mackay may be tempted away from the Hornets after an impressive season, and Cardiff like the fact he can work on a tight budget, as they continue to make financial cutbacks.

Forest would appeal more to Mackay, but they have yet to sort out Davies’ future, despite holding a couple of meetings.

The fiery manager is not willing to leave the City Ground without a fight and a pay-off.

I can't see us paying compo for a manager, then paying a new manager's wage, then paying our old manager's wage.
