Theres no way the guy who gets offered it should think he is second choice
The talks could have broken down when talking about transfer budget and what he could do with the spend, the other guys interviewed were probably asked the same thing but felt capable.
Shearer probably wanted more budget to bring in highly paid stars that he knows
