Theres better ways about doing it than blagging to a newspaper. People would have had more respect for him if he kept quiet and said thankyou for my time at the club, i loved the club and fans but it was time to move on for both.

He then says “I’m not heavy drinker, or someone that gets steaming." Theres plenty of evidence and witnesses that have seen him steaming and behaving un- appropriately for a person in his position

I loved Chopra as a player and loved his work ethic, but to go to the newspapers and discuss internal club matters is totally wrong and i have lost all the respect i had for him

Gareth, your a decent poster. But can you not see the hypocricy in your post?

WE discuss internal Club matters on this board all day and every day

Chops had some good times here, and we loved him. Like you say, his work ethic on
the pitch was first rate.

but he's a human being. If he reads on messageboards fans calling him a wanker, a c**t,
a disgrace, a joke etc etc etc, he is going to do one of two things. Ignore it (and people
would say he's ignoring the posts cos he knows they're true) or answer back. None of us
have any proof that the stories are true or not. Like Annis said, the Club were conspicuously
quiet over it all. I suspect David Jones found the perfect scapegoats for his inability to
manage (the players HE bought) and left the fans to make their own minds up!!

Oh well, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I have to disagree as these updates are obviously causing unease amongst the playing staff. The playing staff will not always be party to what is actually going on at the club and rumour and misinformation is obviously going to discussed amonst them and may cause unease and dispondency.

If all my colleagues were discussing my "faults" and believing them to be true then I'd probably say 'f**k it' and just not bother, after all, they can't sack me and I'll still collect my wages.

Still, if you think what you're doing is in the best interests of the club who am I to argue.

How do you know that Chopra was a heavy drinker and got steaming on occasion Gareth?

How do you know that he didn't check himself into rehab for issues other than drinking ones, like gambling issues for instance!

This rehab thing was back in 2008 mind and as I said in my previous post, unless we are witnesses ourselves, then we should probably keep our thoughts to ourselves! :ayatollah:

Re: Chopra in today's echo

Chopra always gave 100% when he played for us, whether he was out drinking days before a game or not. I don't know what is true but he was off the pace for the last few games of the season and his general lifestyle has been seemingly off this season (whether that's eating habits or what). He moans about being called 'chunky'... but he was!

As someone else said, Chopra was man enough to admit he had a gambling problem and I think if he had done wrong he'd have admitted it on the alcohol front. I do believe he was only on Red Bull but even so, does he not realise the consequences of drinking Red Bull. If he was on it all night he would have had a massive come down the next day and that would be just as damaging as drinking booze.

He could have been a hero here but I just got the impression he became complacent last year and that is blame that can only be apportioned to Chopra himself and our management team at the time. I wish him all the best because under someone like Mackay I think we would have seen Chopra back to his old self but it's not to be.

Chopra was out injured for 2 long spells last season mind and wasn't expected to play any part in our run in!

Yes, he did look a bit overweight (not as much as Parkin though), but he did manage to get himself back into some sort of shape and at least play some part in our run in!

It wasn't his fault either, that DJ kept on playing him as a winger during many games last season, which also contributed to his lesser than usual goal tally! :ayatollah:

I see where your coming from mate, and i think Dave should have managed him better.
But hes not his full time carer, Chopras drinking antics are well known hence the police arrest for dunk and disorderly in February last year, keeping him in a cell for 8 hours to sober up actually does sound like he was steaming,

Messageboards are based mainly on opinions and not facts and are opinions of fans who are effectively paying his wages

Police arrest and personally seeing him drunk on a Saturday Night in Cardiff is a simple answer to your question, the rehab thing yes, only he will know that

I got banged up for the night for being drunk and disorderly when I was in my mid 20s too. Mates too the piss but I wasn't vilified on internet messageboards about it. It's called being young, no matter how much you earn.

Re: Chopra in today's echo

We're all different.

when i think of some of the stuff i wrote about Mark hudson on here last
year i shudder, more importantly, I would never have gone up to the mans
face and told him he was shite, why would i? I didnt know him, what right
would i have to disrespect him like that.

Yet the internet gives us an anonymity that affords us the opportunity to
get all sorts of angry thoughts off our chests. Stuff we dont really mean
half the time. We put it all down to our Love of Cardiff City.. and we all
get pissed too.

Its nothing to do with "this board" or any other board, its the nature of the
internet. You cant blame a messageboard for people getting stuff off their
chests. Its what they are there for.

Well I was proved wrong about Hudson, he DID prove himself to be a decent
Centre-Half last season. If he did read this board, i hope at the end of every
decent game he had, he said a silent "f**k you TaffyApple, you know-nothing Cu*t"
  I deserved it!!

It is just worth remembering sometimes that Players have laptops too.

I'm trying!!

But beer/rum/Jaigermeister... and a misplaced pass by one of our players
can send me straight back over the edge

I was in the dressing room before the Barnsley game and spoke to Shopra - he certainly didn't look like soemone who had been on an allnight bender. Not to say that he wasn't out all night, but he looked far from having been out all night.

Fair play mate, but I'm SICKENED by his comments as I know for a FACT he WAS drinking in Soda bar the night before MIDDLESBORO at home, friends saw him out and were disgusted. I ALSO saw CHOPRA at 4am in For Your Eyes Only the night before the Derby game, scored some decent and important goals, but for the money he was on comes responsibility and for that he's a disgrace and were better off without him.

Re: Chopra in today's echo

Wed Jun 29, 2011 9:35 am

Well I have a lot of respect for him (MIchael Chopra), if only for the FACT that if the whole team would've put in the shift he did in the play-off final we'd've killed Blackpool. At the final whistle it was Ledley and Chopra who were absolutely inconsolable and that was because they had both given as much on the day as any City player I had ever seen in any game.

Re: Chopra in today's echo

Wed Jun 29, 2011 9:35 am

Fair enough about drinking before games and stuff but I really don't see the problem with gambling as long as he's earning his money he's entitled to gamble... I can't believe some of the comments I'm reading about him, he had a stop start season due to injury and I really think he will get 20 goals this year under a good manager who will play him up front instead of out wide, like jones did sometimes... I will be betting him for top scorer this season, just a shame it's not for us..... :ayatollah:

Re: Chopra in today's echo

I laughed at his "im not a big drinker" comment. He has photos of himself necking two bottles of champagne on his facebook page. Plus a few others drinking out of an absolute vodka bottle. :rolls:

I could go on and on about Chops on here, but as most of you know - i spent many a night on here as his Defence Lawyer ;)

Time for a few home truths on here - i told Chops eiether myself or a third party (but not that kind of party!!).
About most of the things that he was alleged to have been up to - never got an answer, but wanted to try and stop anymore stories coming out.

2-3 days before Chops was sold - i even told Bellers, that i could try and help Chops with the gamberling part,as i have contacts in this field...I joked he could stay with me as long as he did not have the Racing Channel on :!:

Did this messagboard force Chops out - NO - But after talking to a few of our players - Some do read this messageboard and others.

Both Lee Naylor and Mark Hundson have had alot of stick on this board and others, but both are still here.
Chops went because the board want to go with what i was told a fresh start, and the move of Chops was good for both parties.

I Never had a pop at Chops on this Messageboard, a sad day for me when he went to Ipswich and i had to take my photo down
of him or be greeted on here with topcat the tractor boy ;)

Good Luck Chops - hope you sort things out off the field, don't get up to any pranks with Sparky ;)

Players read these message boards and get upset --so we should use restraint with criticism

Also players must realise that some posters exagerate their feelings and stir up trouble to get attention.
If they do read these boards they should realise that they are 33% brilliant posts from inteligent supporters 33% average fans views and 33% total crap by sad bstuds

I have a feeling Chops departure will be our worst mistake since selling Toshack

Who says he cant take it? You? Me?

All he has done is reply to accusations in the only way possible really.

This whole messageboard, and the other one is sometimes saturated with
little spats between people. Someone says one thing, someone else fires
back. Why cant Chopra stand up for himself. None of us know the WHOLE
truth

The other part of the article is taken up with him thanking Cardiff City
for persevering with him at a bad time in his career. And with wishing
the Club all the best for the future.

Perhaps, despite him not being the consummate professional at times,
we should remember some of those goals, some of those 100% efforts,
some of those great moments and let him go on his way!!

The manager was the root cause of our failure last season, not William Hills!!!!

... and not Michael Chopra
