Boro defender Andrew Taylor agrees deal with Cardiff City

Middlesbrough left-back Andrew Taylor has agreed to sign for Cardiff City.
Left-back Taylor has turned down the offer of a new contract from Middlesbrough and a bid from Bristol City to sign for the Bluebirds.
And it looks likely Dundee United’s David Goodwillie will follow Taylor to Cardiff.
Taylor is due for a medical in South Wales on Monday and he will sign when that is completed.
While Taylor is out of contract, Goodwillie would cost a transfer fee of up to £2m. Cardiff have agreed terms with Dundee United and that deal could well be completed this weekend.
And in another piece of business on the anvil, the club have been strongly linked with a move for Coventry City’s out of contract midfield ace Aron Gunnarsson.
If all goes well, the trio of signings would take Mackay’s aquisitions since taking over from Dave Jones to four, joining winger Craig Conway, who has already made the switch from Dundee United.
England under-21 international Taylor had to make a choice between Middlesbrough, where he has played since coming through the youth development system, Bristol City and Cardiff City. In the end it came down to Boro or the Bluebirds – and he quickly decided on a move to Wales.
Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray made a strong bid to keep Hartlepool-born Taylor at the North East club, but he was keen to link up with Mackay.
Taylor knows the new City manager from his time on loan with Watford last season. Mackay tried hard to keep Taylor at Watford on a long-term deal, but that wasn’t possible at the time.
Now he is reaping the rewards of missing out then by signing the defender for 2011-12.
Taylor, 24, has had loan spells with Bradford City and Watford, but the vast majority of his career has been with Middlesbrough.
He started his playing days as a left midfield player, but is likely to operate at left-back for the Bluebirds.
Taylor is taking a hefty pay cut because he was still on Premier League level wages last season. He would have taken a cut in wages whether he had stayed with Middlesbrough or signed for Bristol City.
Cardiff City, though, won the chase for his signature because they offered the best deal. Taylor also enjoys working with Mackay and is impressed by Cardiff City’s training facilities and new stadium.
