The rape case could be heard next year, no one knows when or if they will charge him! We will either sign him or we will not, we will not be waiting for court case results, having said that the assault case is on the 11th July

Andrew Taylor set to sign for Cardiff

by Terry Phillips, Wales On Sunday
Jul 3 2011

ANDREW TAYLOR leaves his native north east today ready to make a Bluebirds commitment.

Hartlepool-born Taylor, 24, has decided to leave Middlesbrough, where he has played since he was nine years old, and signed for Cardiff City.

The former England Under-21 international had to make a choice between staying at Boro or making the first permanent move of his career, with Cardiff City and Bristol City the main contenders.

“I’ve decided to give Cardiff a go and I will be their player by tomorrow night,” said Taylor, who will potentially be new manager Malky Mackay’s third signing after Craig Conway, from Dundee United, and Watford’s Don Cowie.

Mackay, though, is also moving in on Dundee United’s highly talented striker David Goodwillie, who has already travelled down to the Welsh capital, and that deal could be finalised early this week, while Cardiff have strong interest in Coventry City’s out-of-contract Aron Gunnarsson.

The Icelandic midfield player is away in Dubai considering offers from several clubs.

Watford were furious following midfield player Cowie’s switch from the Hornets to the Bluebirds. He is the fifth member of Watford’s staff to leave, following manager Mackay, assistant manager David Kerslake, coach Joe McBride and physio Richard Collinge.

“I hope that’s the end of it,” said Watford chairman Graham Taylor.

Tomorrow, Cowie will join his new Cardiff City club-mates for training, while Taylor and Goodwillie are on course to complete their moves to South Wales.

Left-back Taylor knows Mackay well, having played on loan for Watford from Middlesbrough last season. And he admits the Mackay factor was a big influence while he was pondering his future.

“I have chosen Cardiff City because of the manager and because I believe this is the best move for my football,” he said.

“People will think this is about money, but that has never been the case. Another club [believed to be Bristol City] offered me better money.

“Leaving Middlesbrough is the hardest decision I have had to make in my life. It’s an upsetting thing to leave my home club. I’ve been there since I was nine. It’s probably the right time to move on.

“I’m in Cardiff tomorrow for my medical and hopefully it will go well. It should do.

“Then I will be a Cardiff player by tomorrow night. This is the time to move on and look to progress my career. I worked for Malky Mackay during a loan spell at Watford last season and really enjoyed my time there. I’m looking forward to playing for him again.”

Taylor, who can play at left-back or in left midfield, was offered a new deal by Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray but turned down the chance to stay.

He played in midfield when Middlesbrough won the FA Youth Cup in 2004, while he played Premier League football for Boro.

Taylor became a free agent when his contract at Middlesbrough ended on June 30.

He made almost 200 first team appearances during his career, for Middlesbrough, Watford (loan) and Bradford City (loan).

Scottish international Cowie, aged 28, signed for the Bluebirds on Friday, and said: “I enjoyed playing under Malky Mackay at Watford and I am delighted to link up with him again.

“My two-and-a-half years at Watford was the best spell of my career to date and I am sad to leave, but excited about the new challenge.

“I am blown away by the facilities at the new training ground and stadium. They are amazing.

“This is a new challenge for me and I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully I can be part of something very special here at Cardiff.”

Inverness-born Cowie, who describes himself as a box-to-box midfield player happy to play on the left, right or through the middle, made his full Scotland debut against Wales at Cardiff City Stadium, saying: “That was a special day for me.

“Scotland were on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat, but my Scotland debut was still special.”

n CELTIC are keen to sign Craig Bellamy on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

They are willing to offer Bellamy the chance to live and train in South Wales and fly to Scotland for matches.

“If we can find a way to sign Bellamy we will look at it,” said Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

n CARDIFF City have finalised their pre-season fixtures, starting against Charlton Athletic in Seville, Spain.

New manager Malky Mackay is keeping fixtures to a minimum before the Championship season starts at West Ham United on Sunday, August 7.

Cardiff have no games before they fly out for a pre-season trip to Spain on Saturday, July 9.

The following Friday, at the end of a hard week’s work in the Spanish sun, Cardiff will play League One team Charlton Athletic in Seville.

Their second pre-season match will be against AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court on Saturday, July 23, (1pm kick-off).

That will be followed by Yeovil Town away the following Tuesday (7.45pm), and then the only home fixture pre-season, against Italian club Parma on Saturday, July 30, (3pm).

On the same day, youth academy coach Lee Skyrme will take a development team to play non-League Weston-super-Mare.

I dont think it is going to happen on Monday lads. He was playing yesterday and when asked about going down to you lads tomorrow he looked confused and said it wouldn't happen that early.

On the brigh side, reports up here say Rangers are cooling their interest on Goodie. Clearing the path for you guys to crack on with the dealings ;)

I am getting my doubts about Goodwillie signing tomorrow, he is still in Scotland at this very moment.

I don`t think the club will move on Goodwillie until they know what the legal situation is .......would you ?
It`s all gone a bit quiet about Earnie though I was hoping to hear that we were going to sign him up this week.
