I am not condoning the individual who said Gerry Adams all i am saying is that MANY political leaders have blood on their hands and those that lost their lives because of stupid politics are ALL to be mourned. Why the f**k can't we all live in Peace and Harmony and put the past where it belongs....in the past. FORGIVENESS is a wonderful attribute :|

I've lived in Tooting Bec for around 20 years so practically a Tootingstani myself, I can say that Mr Smith is not too popular at all in those parts. Splitting from the Popular Front of Tooting to form his own far left organisation, the so called TPF or Tooting Popular Front set the cause back by at least three days. We, the Popular Front of Tooting are the main political party in the area apart from the Torries obviously who are proving worthy opponents and have poached several of our more able politicians over the years. Ah, the Liberals are probably slightly more popular than the PFT but thats because Livingstone the commie nutjob gave them free condoms and so is the Monster Raving Loony party but they're not a serious political organisation more of party party. There's another outfit that have made certain in-roads into our lack of a political powerbase but the name escapes me, they're quite popular in Wales I'm led to beleve.

Smith, a Splitter....

The Welsh coalfields would still be working to this day if hadn't been for one of most odious people on the planet, Scargill.

I can't be arsed to explain why Welsh coal is actually "eco friendly", anyone with a basic grasp of geological process' can tell you that and the government of the time new that. Certain concession had to made to the European Union in order to assists certain other country's into the Socialist State of Europe one of which involved coal. The coal mining areas of Poland (and to a certain extent the Alsace Lorraine mines on the German French border) for example have the same type of coal as the Nottingham/Yorkshire fieds, i.e. crap coal. Thatcher's government manged to get the EU (I think was EEC at the time) to agree to British Coal exports continuing at the same levels as previously but with quite a substantial reduction on the crap coal which would be filled by the Poles and also allow the Germans to build up some funds for support of the former GDR. Yes, it was known back then that the GDR would collapse.

In short Scargill, who knew about the this, killed the South Wales coalfields. I'm not a mining Engineer, although I do advise from time to time, but I don't think the day is too far off when full scale comercial mining starts again in south wales. It will be a lot different to the old days though, technology is at a stage where no man (or woman) will need to crawl on his (or her) belly with a jack hammer in hand to get the coal.

Good to see you suport murderers

the book i read didn't say he was actually guilty of any murders. no admittance or otherwise proven by his peers..and any comments written about him being involved with PIRA are indeed slammed and labelled as libellous.

not that different to ian paisley really

But you have to say that our river run with clear water, nothing pilitical but it's the best thing that happened to us here all the scars are now healing on the landscape, and if you ask any miner he will say it's the best thing that ever happened

Salmon, sewin, and wild brown trout will agree

Indeed Baz.

Having a burger van doesn't get you exposed to some quite severe radiation, lungs knackered and one of the worst accident records in any industry. Travelling down from Brecon to Cardiff 35 years ago through the "mining villages" on a fairly regular basis is something that I'll never forget. The depression.

I was on the A470 by pass job, a young lad then, during the strike, learnt a lot. I did a bit with Welsh Water subsequently, still a young un but some stuff was took up. You can drink the water from the taff now, the fish will be back.

Referencing from the Daily Mail is akin to using HEAT magazine as a reference book.

Regardless of whether Gerry Adams has blood on his hands, so do countless Unionist politicians, other Nationalist politicians as well as some British soldiers. The important thing is to get a grip, and get over it.

If your gonna discuss on here who is and isn't a murderer, what is and isn't a murder, etc, etc, then I want some sound and concrete philosophical, sociological and theological references.

In an area that has been ravaged by sectarian divisions( a huge chunk of which was during a near apartheid type of majority rule), it is going to be natural for political leaders to have links with any wars that have happened. It prevails on both Unionist and Republican sides.

Saying that, there is a lot of conjecture regarding if Adams was in as high a position as some with agendas will allege.

Regardless, this thread is for people to announce their political heroes. Best just to let people make their choices, without trying to impinge on their opinions with your own.
