French centre-forward Rudy Gestede makes his Cardiff City debut during tonight’s pre-season clash with Charlton Athletic in southern Spain.
The 6ft 4ins former FC Metz striker has spent this week training with the Bluebirds at their base near Jerez, an hour from Seville.
“Rudy has been with us this week and he’ll play a part against Charlton,” said Cardiff manager Malky Mackay. “No decisions have been made, but he’s a young player we wanted to take a close look at.”
French under-19 international Gestede, 22, is from Essey-lès-Nancy and has played for FC Metz and on loan for Cannes.
Now he is working to impress the new Bluebirds manager Mackay, who has already brought in six new players and is working to add more to his squad.
Mackay needs to strengthen in attack and Gestede has the chance to impress and, if he does well, earn a second match at home against Celtic next Wednesday.
Cardiff’s six new players – Craig Conway, Don Cowie, Andrew Taylor, Aron Gunnarsson, Joe Mason, Robert Earnshaw – will all be involved against Charlton when the Bluebirds will aim to give every member of the squad with them in Spain a run-out.
First-year professionals Ibby Farah, Alex Evans and Nat Jarvis will all be involved and Mackay says: “It’s been a week of hard work.
“And the facilities and pitches have been excellent.”

If he can't score in the French league, why do you think the English game will suit him more? It's easier to score in the less physical French league than it is here

well he's just proved to alot of you that he can score a goal
