Gil reece, now there is a name from the past, i remember that infamous wednesday night in 1971 when we had to get a result away to sheff utd to have any chance of promotion to the old 1st division, we lost 4-1 and reece scored a hatrick, sheff utd got promoted and we finished 3rd, some things never change!!!!!

Saw us play at Pompey in this kit.
It was ditched after three away games as we got stuffed in every game!

T'was 5-1 I think. I don't think he scored a hattrick, although he did score.

Gil Reece also worked for his famlly plumbing firm They installed my mum's heating in the 70's.

Sadly Gil died in 2003 aged 61

I was working in Sharpe and Fisher builders' merchants in the late 70s early 80s in the old West Dock. Remember Gil Reece as a plumber (and as a footballer, obviously). His brother Les (I think it was) used to come in for materials, but Gil would come in sometimes himself. To be honest, I was a bit starstruck, but some of the older boys would chat with him. Gil seemed a good bloke. He certainly played for Sheffield United in that 5-1 game :( , but joined us a few years later. Famous story has it that he had to get off a plane to East Germany, while playing for Wales, to let an FAW blazer on! Had to fly out later, by himself  Later in life he had a leg amputated, and died fairly young. May he rest in peace.

Talking about memory lane, does anyone remember keeper frank Parsons again early 70's, 3-0 up at home to M'Bourgh and thanks to him lost 3-4. Bywater was shilton compared to him :old:

That kit was right up there in the fashion stakes at the time, the same as flares and high waisters. Remember once goingot watch Cardiff play in that kit and I wore flares and 3 button high waister with a shirt collars that came down to my nipples. Beegee boy lookalike me.
