BALLSOM William George

Right-Back/Centre Half
Born:Trealaw,30th October 1912

Died:1983
Career:Tunbridge Wells Rangers
Gillingham 1935
Cardiff City 1938
Welsh Cup Finalist 1938-39

Lanky defender George Ballsom was with Porth in the early 1930's before playing for Tunbridge Wells Rangers. His strong tacking and good use of the ball prompted Gillingham to give him his chance at league level, and he was a member of their side for three seasons. When the Gills failed to be re-elected to the football league in 1938,Ballsom returned to South Wales to join Cardiff City.Taking over from Arthur Granville.Ballsom became first choice right-back and appeared in 34 of the 1938-39 season.Retained for the aborted 39-40 campain he later drifted into the local non-league scene.
