Biggest difference so far is the age and cost difference :ayatollah:

As oposed to this and last, maybe its better to look at who we lost and gained

John - Doesnt count
Bywater - Heaton (fully fit)
Brown - Marshall (fully fit)
JLS - Gerrard (JLS was brought in so Kev could play CB)
Matthews - Taylor
Burke - Conway
Rae - Kiss
Olofinjana - Gunnarson
Bothroyd - Miller
Chopra - Earnshaw
Bellamy - ?Bellamy?

That is without Cowie and Mason, also Wildig and Taiwo have return to the fold so really we have a bigger squad than last year without Bellamy and still with maybe Godwillie too.

Currently we have

GK: 3
FB: 5
CB: 4

Wing: 2
CM: 6

FW: 4

Clearly need wingers but as the match day squad is now 16 players as opposed to 18 (a rule change I disagree with, but what the hey, may have been good for League One and Two but Championship should be able to cope). A good squad should be around 28 and we are at 24 so two wingers and a striker with one of the youth players making the grade at least and we'll be in a strong position.

Other than Conway

Oh and Koumas who we havent replaced, ergo we need more wingers.

A large percentage of those last season weren't even here until the season started. In that respect, Mackay is well ahead of his game and let's be honest, the ratio of targets he's gone for that have actually signed is extremely impressive so far. If the Miller deal goes through he's pulled a rabbit out of the hat there. He's commanding the utmost respect already

Our squad is now oozing young, talented, hungry players.

Biggest difference which should be noted is, this time last year, we wee under transfer embargo and none of the players had officially signed. With only Heaton, Drinkwater and Koumas waiting for official notice by the league to join.

So amazing achievement by the club signing so many players for the new season. :ayatollah:
