Are we going to spend money this summer?

Fri Jul 29, 2011 9:41 am

Explain the 20 million pound budget that was talked about.

Is MM being given a lot less than DJ to worked with?

I also question this, the players brought in so far make us far weaker than last season

I know we could bring more players in but we need them NOW to gel with the current squad and hit the ground running

Going on what MM said this morning, I don't believe that Earnshaw and Miller were his first choice striker targets.

For a start, Rudy and Miller will start. Rudy was a trial signing.

We have brought in some good players.

But we need to spend a little more to be up there or there abouts.

Jesus if we can strengthen our squad without spending money, why shouldn't we. Well we already wasted money on Miller so you can't said we haven't spent anything

Yes we are - Kenny Miller

Another PR stunt by the Malaysians in regards to what is available to spend, I believe nothing that goes on with our club unless I can see or touch it. Either that or MM is keeping his budget for the "special one".

As everybody was told earlier in summer yes we had budget of £20m but that included transfer fees, wages and everyday running costs we had wage bill of god knows how much last season so i think we have just spent little more wisely

Re: Are we going to spend money this summer?

The £20 million was to include wages for the whole season as has been explained numerous times. It was never a buying budget.

idiots on here that all mate they think 20 m is spending budget on players they need reality check

Re: Are we going to spend money this summer?

Fri Jul 29, 2011 10:15 am

yeah all the players play for free, very nice of them

Re: Are we going to spend money this summer?

No one said that the 20 million should be spent on transfers.

A wage bill of 100,000 a week is just over 5 million per year.

I just don't see the rest of the 20 million.

Do we factor in season ticket sales to the 20 million?

Chops tranfer fee covers what was spent on Miller and Mason.

20m = wages + transfer fees + signing on fees.

got to take in to account general running costs when club is not making anything during preseason, Chops fee prob went on what we owed other clubs in transfer fees

He needs three "Special ones" if we are to do anything this season. Yes Bellers would be a great help but from a team persective he would be needed more wide as we lack pace and width. If we brought in a class winger then use him as a striker.

Also need a centre half who can shift- Hudson and Tony G looked too slow together last time so what has changed???? :ayatollah:

What was the wage bill last season under Jones?

Why are people expecting massive transfer fees?

Re: Are we going to spend money this summer?

I would like to see Goodwillie and I don't think 2 million is a huge transfer fee.

12 players left and 9 in so far.

Jay, Burke, Rae, Chops alone were over £30,000 a week.

And replacing like with like will have probably been around the same.

Which would still leave 15 million.

Take away 10 million.

Give MM a 5 million transfer budget.

5 million is not a huge amount.

Not necessarily. From memory, last years wage bill was between 12 and 15m.

We've lost players off the wage bill, replacing them means the new wages + signing on fees. Add in we've a small squad, better to get more players in than spend big money on one guy.

Re: Are we going to spend money this summer?

Fri Jul 29, 2011 11:00 am

we spent £250,000 on mason

Re: Are we going to spend money this summer?

Fri Jul 29, 2011 11:05 am

We didn't have a 300,000 a week wages bill last season.

Some teams in the Prem don't have that.

Our biggest earners have left.

Bellers, Oli and JK in total were on £40,000 a week.

Worst case as of right now - And don't think the wages bill is anywhere close to this - £200,000 a week.

Signing on fees and agent fees - 5 million - far to high, but I'm going to play it very safe.

That still leaves 5 million.

Covered by the Chops fee.

The Miller transfer was also covered by this.

BUT.....

You could take it out of the transfer budget and that would still leave 4 million.

9 down and 3 more to go.

I have zero problem with free transfers if they are up to the job.
