For my first serious girlfriend (after an argument) I once pulled up a pile of flowers from the greens over Splott Park in the early hours of the morning and wrapped them in pages of The Echo, I then rode my BMX to Adamsdown and climbed a clothes line pole to her window, I left the flowers on the windowsill and knocked the window before making my exit into the night like a really shit Milk Tray Man.

For my first missus again (we were together for 8 years) we were walking down Newport Rd past the Ford garage when she spotted a bright red XR2i (I was about 17 so it'd be around 1991-ish nd they'd just come out), I watched her swooning over it so later on in the night I went hunting one down in my mates Escort Mexico and knicked it, I drove it to Adamsdown and flashed the 4 foglamps and beeped continuously until she came to the window looking really unimpressed... It didn't work with Astra GTEs, a Porche 944, Granada Scorpio 24v, Fiesta RS Turbos, Peugeot 205 GTis or a Renault 5 GT Turbo either.

Some women are not easily pleased. :(

It was the early 90s man, full leather interior, power steering... the works.

I prefered the little hatchbacks though. ;)

I liked the XR2is when they came out, these days you get a 16v engine in everything but back then I loved Astra GTEs, and the Astra GSis that came later, if I could find a mint Peugeot 205 Gti 1.6 i'd own one tomorrow... the only problem is most of them have been nicked and screwed. :hide:

I had a GTE on an E Reg, in black, digital dash... I was David Hasselhoff.

My mate had an XR2i as a company car when they first came out. We were out in it in the snow and he tried to do some rally driving in it down a country lane and we ended up in someone's back garden after demolishing their hedge!!!

I had 2 5GT Turbo's, they were so fast that not much would really keep up with them on normal A and B roads. I have a Twingo Renaultsport 133 Cup now and that feels very similar to the 5GTT it's almost the natural successor. Lightweight, and very similar in size and power output

The GT Turbo was like a go-cart, nippy and light, great handling due to low centre of gravity, no offence but we used to rally them around the tight streets of Splott because the police could not keep up in their Saphire Cossies or Scorpios (at the time), very similar and very underated was the Daihatsu Charade Turbo... very quick, very small, I think it was a 1.3..?

Splott-light, no offence intended! I loved the 5GTTs for the very reasons you gave, that's why I bought 2 of them. My mate gave me a lift in his mum's Charade and you're absolutely right about them. Shit off a shovel springs to mind

Try the Twingo RS133, you'll be very pleasantly surprised. But not mine

I'm a proper cheesy romantic prick. I whip it all out (no pun intended). Not sure on the most romantic thing I've done. Probably when my girlfriend suffered a miscarriage and I was by her side for the days around it. I wrote her a letter saying how I'd always be there for her and that I would never let her down plus how much I loved her etc.

I also pulled out during unprotected sex with her once... does that count? :D

I hope she never reads this!
