' Cardiff's New Scapegoat '

Tue Sep 12, 2017 8:56 pm

Outfought, poor all round performance, toothless in attack, 2nd to every ball, bad night at the office... forget about that, step forward Neil Etheridge, taking over from former scapegoat Peter Whittingham.

On a serious note, get behind the boy. Don't slaughter him. He's going to be shot of confidence, the last thing he needs is the fans on his back. He plays for us!

If he makes mistakes, as he has done, then he'll be criticised.

Fans are entitled to their opinions, and tonight wasn't the first time he's made mistakes.

You're correct, but I've seen it all before with players being singled out. Seems like it's Etheridge this season already. He's raw and needs work but I genuinely think he'll come good. Warnock knows what he's doing

Warnock has faith in him, so thats good enough for me :thumbright: :thumbright:

But tonight we have to be honest Etheridge was poor and costly tonight.

Where are the topics about Bamba or Zohore? Both didn't show up tonight. Zohore wasn't interested at all. Poor team performance collectively. Etheridge contributed, but was hardly the worst player tonight.

He was, but the team were poor as a whole. I wouldn't be surprised if there's 5-6 changes come Saturday

Agree with your point, but give fans a chance to react to the match.

I think Etheridge deserves all the criticism coming his way, and the same goes for Zohore. I actually half-expected Ward to start over Zohore tonight. I know Bamba made mistakes too.

But all will get criticism from fans, that's part and parcel of being a footballer.

I don't see anyone making a scapegoat of Etheridge, just pointing out the mistakes he's made - and there's been a few already.

I also say that the manager should take most of the blame, as he took most of the credit when things were going well.

there is a thread...calamity Etheridge...so yes he is being scapegoated.
now had we deserved a win but lost 3 .2..fair enough. but having read reports we were lucky to finish 2nd.

Yes I made it as thats how I saw him tonight,my honest opinion, but that does not mean he should be picked on next game.

Surely we can say how we saw tonights players/game and give our own personal views :thumbright:

when a team is collectively that bad and outplayed..its a bit harsh then to pick one out..especially the one player who has the least chance to grit his teeth and make up for an error at the other end.

Not really because for me at least two of the goals were down to Etheridge and if the team feels their keeper behind their is having a nightmare of a game and they can't rely on him, that surely unsettles everyone.

Yes as a whole they all played pretty badly, but Etheridge for me was the worst, then Bamba, which I said in my report,I can only say how I saw it :thumbright:

Personally id bring in Brian Murphy on Saturday for Etheridge, Dont rate Etheridge at all.
Same goes for bringing Bryson on for Damour who im not a big fan of.
All fans entitled to criticize if people are not playing well. Maybe the players got a bit complacent last night and this was the shot up the backside we required

Until last night top of the Championship and a defensive record second to none. Neil Etheridge was part of that super run! ;)

Not sure I understand your post. Re: ' Cardiff's New Scapegoat '

I don't think it's any of the players fault for this display! As I said well before the game changes should have been made to freshen it up.

Why have we got a stronger looking bench and why some are on fire in training i.e. Ward and don't get a look in.

The management knew the distance involved in both these 2 games. The team shouldn't be picked on sentiment but on needs to rotate some players at times.

Sorry but we do have an excellent Manager and management team however on this occasion the blame lies squarely with NW and his team.

Just goes to show you might be old but you can still learn things.

Let's hope we can get back on track with 2 strong teams to play us next.

Probably the most exposed position in any football team and fans on his back won't help! :(

Well said Chris. He's been brilliant since joining - I wasn't there last night but asides from Wolves, I've seen him play every game and he's been excellent in all areas - stopping, distribution from hands/feet, set-pieces & corners, out of box clearances & bravery. The GK is the most specialist position on the pitch as you have to be good with your hands & feet plus its the most exposed as one mistake can be a goal as opposed to most outfield player mistakes. I wasn't there yesterday and only saw highlights so I can't really comment but it sounds that most of the team were behind the pace - I saw a bit of that on Saturday at Fulham where generally they seem to have gone down a couple of gears from the impressive displays we have seen. I think the Int break hasn't helped but then again other teams have the same. I'm sure we'll all be making an extra effort to get behind the boys on Saturday just like we did when we went 1-0 down at Fulham and also getting Neil Etheridge to do the ayatollah!

Which City player has not made a mistake this season- None.
The problem is if a goalkeeper makes a mistake it normally results in a goal.
