' Give Danny Ward a chance? '

By Dominic Booth

Tuesday 19th September 2017

How long can Danny Ward continue to be a perennial late substitute? The former Rotherham forward has played 75 minutes this season — over the course of eight matches.

He has been brought on in every Cardiff league match, to great effect at Craven Cottage when he grabbed a late equaliser.

But Bluebirds fans have been scratching their heads as to why Ward keeps being excluded from the first team. Neither centre-forward Zohore nor left-winger Hoilett shone against Sheffield Wednesday, so it might finally be time for Ward to slot in at Sunderland on Saturday.

Ward offers pace and urgency in the final third that Cardiff criminally lacked at Preston, and could have used in the first half against Wednesday.

It is not a freak occurrence that his introduction has coincided with late goals at Burton, Fulham and against the Owls. Whether it's up front or on the wing, Neil, Ward deserves a shot.

With Zohore not scoring, then Ward should be given a chance sooner rather than later. Zohore is a great player but strikers need to score goals and he's not scoring at the moment.

Zohore has been massive for us this season...has single handed kept teams honest against us.
we are 3rd..have 17 points..are level with the top team...
if we can repeat that over next 8 games i care not if he scores a goal..

Can't argue with that but if Danny Ward keeps scoring in his brief appearances should he not warrant a crack at the whip ? He may be even more effective.

I don't see a place for him at the moment, Zohore started the season playing very well so we just need to get him back to that.

Out wide we have Feeney brought in

Don't think I see Ward as a winger anyway...could be wrong but seems a more central player IMO

read Rotherhams message boards when we signed him..striker/winger..was what was being said..i got the idea much like Pilks.. ,we just havent seen enough to judge but i dont see him in the isolated solitary striker role Zohore has been asked to play...just dont see this one for one thats being mooted..i think for Ward to come in our manager would need to change our game plan from recent games..

Yeah he's definitely played on the wing but scored 12 goals in the Striker role for Rotherham last season who were pretty p*ss poor so that's good going. Think he's probably better suited to a 4-4-2 alongside Ken maybe? But yeah, that would be changing the game plan as you would then have to sacrifice a midfield player (Ralls, Gunnar, Damour, etc.) which is pretty absurd seeing how well they've played.

Annis, I think the word you're looking for is peripheral,

Should switch to a 4-4-2 and play both Zohore and Ward.
Bench Ralls and Gunnar and replace with Tomlin and Bryson

Ralls and Gunnar have been absolutely integral to what we've achieved so far. Why drop them? Rest, yes. Drop? No.

Could we have a gardening section?
The age of people on here I reckon it would be popular.
