Stephen about 25-30 yrs ago I went to Villa v Millwall, Millwall in old Div1, Millwall took 8,000 fans there, they absolute ran riot and chased Villa everywhere after the game, even the Police had to retreat.
Yes I can see some trouble again.

We had trouble up there a few years ago when we played them in the cup if I remember right.

It is exactly what they do for the derby. Basically, they erect a steel wall across the road. Millwall will be marched to and from the coaches and trains through streets that no Villa fans can access. Most Millwall fans won't see a Villa fan outside the ground all day and vice versa.

Your prob 100% bang on, but years ago it was a Free for all outside Villa Park.
Millwall will be drinking all over.

We did by the entrance to the coaches and the main road.

There won't be any Millwall near the ground as there are no pubs for them to go in. That leaves town and they'll then get the trains and be wrapped up.
VP has always been one of the easiest grounds to police outside as there's no side streets and the coach park and station are within spitting distance.

I was at the game last season and saw no trouble. I sit on the same side as you and outside, there was OB lined all the way up the road - Can't see there being anything major. The road has loads of cameras as well.

You do realise that the police don't even allow coaches into Cardiff until just before kick off?
Every coach has to go to a service station on the outskirts at 2pm for an escort in.
That is equally as bad and interferes with peoples pre-match drink.

Seen about 50 bham fans a couple of years ago drinking in Caerphilly which is roughly 10 miles from CCS.
It was the most bizarre thing i'd ever seen getting on the same train as them.

off topic a bit but out of interest do a lot of Villa travel by coach.?
our fans do but its quite rare to see more than 10 coaches leave our car park and ive noticed a lack of coaches while visiting other grounds for games that do not involve ourselves.

Yes, a lot of Villa travel by coach. Like yourselves, there seem to be about 5 or 6 different people organising trips as well as the official supporters club.
My feeling (and it's probably the same with yourselves) is that coach is usually a lot cheaper than trains, unless you can find a good deal. A coach to yours earlier in the season was £25 whereas I couldn't find a train for under £60. QPR the other week was a bit different as there are usually cheap deals to London (our coach was £25, the train was £28). Derby next week will see lots travelling by train because it's affordable. Middlesbrough over Xmas will see almost everyone travelling by coach.

as for around the ground your better off going for a beer and food on the outskirts of birmingham like minworth / sutton coldfield off junction 9 off the M42 parking up near a local railway station catch the train and out after the game if your going independantly . much better than anywhere near the ground or the centre of birmingham .

A punch up that terrifies all those that attend football to watch football and not have a scrap. Not forgetting innocent bystanders who can get dragged in.
I’m very much of the opinion they should set aside areas for firms to have a scrap. Let them do it away from people who don’t want anything to do with it.

Went to that pub with the marquee before the game at Villa last season and the bouncer on the gate was charging £2 just to get into the marquee!
Not sure if he was meant to be charging but he certainly seemed to be doing quite well out of it.
VP is an expensive enough place to go without being charged to go into a grubby marquee.
